What color is normal for menstruation?

Almost every woman will observe her menstrual period and will carefully observe the amount, color, and whether there are blood clots, because these will affect our physical health. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, menstruation is also an intuitive indicator of the body. Normal menstruation means that our physical condition is relatively good and we don’t have to worry.

1. Menstrual cycle: From the first day of menstruation to the first day of the next menstruation is called a menstrual cycle. For the vast majority of people, the menstrual cycle is between 28-35 days, but for a few, it can be as short as 20 days or as long as 45 days. Within the above range, as long as the menstruation is regular, it is normal.

2. Menstrual period: The period of vaginal bleeding is called the menstrual period. Most people's menstrual period lasts 3-5 days, but as little as 1-2 days and as much as 7-8 days is also within the normal range.

3. Menstrual blood volume: The menstrual blood volume during normal menstruation is 20-120 ml, most of which is 50 ml. It is highest on the second or third day of menstruation and gradually decreases afterwards.

4. Menstrual color: The characteristic of menstrual blood is that it does not coagulate and is dark red. In addition to blood, menstrual blood also contains fragments of endometrial lining, cervical mucus and vaginal epithelial cells.

5. Cycle: Every woman’s cycle is different. Anything from 21 to 35 days is considered normal. The key is whether it is on time. Having sex regularly (e.g. once a week) can help regulate your hormones and help with menstrual regularity.

6. Blood clots: What are the blood clots discharged during menstruation? The doctor explained that if menstrual blood is blocked in the same area and not discharged in time, blood clots will form after 5 to 10 minutes of accumulation. Blood clots usually occur in the morning when you first wake up or after sitting for a long time.

7. Menstruation no longer comes: If menstruation no longer comes, the possibility of pregnancy should be ruled out first. If you are not pregnant, you should review your lifestyle: travel, stress, strenuous exercise, excessive weight loss and climate change can affect your menstrual cycle. Hormonal and thyroid imbalances can also lead to longer menstrual cycles.
