What is the difference between menstrual blood and uterine bleeding?

Menstruation is a normal physiological phenomenon. Women will experience heavy bleeding during their menstrual period, and their bodies are often weak during this period. Uterine bleeding is a common clinical problem, which is mainly caused by gynecological diseases. Because the two types of bleeding are similar, many people often confuse menstrual blood and uterine bleeding. So what is the difference between menstrual blood and uterine bleeding?

1. Is menstrual blood regular?

To distinguish between uterine bleeding and menstrual blood, you must first know whether your menstruation is regular, when it usually comes, how many days it lasts, and how much menstrual blood there is. If you know these, if you bleed during the non-menstrual period, it is mostly a manifestation of abnormal uterine bleeding.

2. Abnormal vaginal bleeding

Uterine bleeding, also known as non-menstrual bleeding, is a manifestation of abnormal vaginal bleeding. Common examples include functional uterine bleeding, which is a manifestation of uterine bleeding. Generally speaking, normal menstrual blood is slightly darker red, while uterine bleeding may be slightly brighter red.

3. Reasons

Except for bleeding during menstruation which is normal bleeding, other bleeding is generally considered abnormal uterine bleeding. There are many reasons for this abnormal bleeding, such as ovarian endocrine dysfunction, reproductive tract inflammation, injury, systemic diseases, etc., which can all cause uterine bleeding. If a postmenopausal woman has abnormal uterine bleeding, the possibility of a malignant tumor should be considered. If it is uterine bleeding during adolescence, it is mostly dysfunctional uterine bleeding, also known as functional uterine bleeding.

4. Performance

There are many manifestations of uterine bleeding, such as increased menstrual volume and prolonged menstrual period. If the cycle is normal, it may be caused by uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, functional uterine bleeding, etc. If the bleeding is irregular during the menstrual cycle, it is mostly functional uterine bleeding, but the possibility of endometrial cancer should also be ruled out. If it is long-term continuous vaginal bleeding, it is mostly due to malignant tumors of the reproductive organs, and there is also irregular bleeding after menopause. If you are in your childbearing age, it may be caused by ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, etc. In addition, there is normal uterine bleeding, such as intermenstrual bleeding, which is mostly ovulation bleeding.
