What to do if the placenta is low

People who have experienced it know that it is really not easy to have a child nowadays. Every prenatal check-up is like an exam, for fear of any problem. Low-lying placenta is a common form of abnormal pregnancy. It can cause bleeding in late pregnancy, and if not handled properly, it will affect the baby's growth and the mother's safety. Of course, pregnant mothers don't need to worry. Regular check-ups and paying more attention to their own conditions can avoid similar pregnancy situations. Let's talk about what to do if the placenta is low.

1. What to do if the placenta is low?

Many pregnant mothers are told that their placenta is low during prenatal check-ups, which makes them very anxious. So what should we do if the placenta is low? First of all, the editor suggests that all pregnant mothers should not worry too much. Being too worried is not good for the baby and themselves. For some pregnant women with low-lying placenta, as the gestational age increases, the lower segment of the uterus will lengthen and the position of the placenta will rise, and the placenta will no longer be in a low-lying position. If there is no obvious discomfort before 28 weeks of pregnancy and the fetus is developing well, it is recommended to continue observation. No treatment is needed and it is recommended to rest and stay in bed more. All strenuous exercise should be avoided. Actions that increase abdominal pressure such as running, jumping, squatting, bending over, and coughing hard should be controlled and avoided as much as possible. A low-lying placenta is mainly prone to cause placental abruption. If heavy bleeding or repeated bleeding occurs, termination of pregnancy should be considered depending on the situation. As long as you get through the second trimester safely, by the late pregnancy, most of the placentas will move up and become normal placentas.

2. So what should we pay attention to when the placenta is low?

1. Do an ultrasound every 4 weeks during pregnancy

Pregnant women with low-lying placenta must have regular ultrasound examinations. Experts recommend going to the hospital for a check-up every 4 weeks during pregnancy.

2. Closely monitor the condition

Pregnant women with low-lying placenta must pay close attention to monitoring their condition. If a pregnant woman experiences heavy bleeding, repeated bleeding, or is about to give birth, termination of pregnancy should be considered depending on the circumstances.

3. Choose cesarean section to terminate pregnancy at the right time

After 35 weeks of pregnancy, the frequency of uterine physiological contractions increases and the bleeding rate of low-lying placenta increases significantly, which is very dangerous for both the fetus and the pregnant woman. Therefore, at 36 weeks of pregnancy, we should start to check whether the fetus's lung development is mature. If it is mature, we will choose cesarean section to terminate the pregnancy.
