How to reduce fever caused by acute mastitis?

Acute mastitis is a common disease in lactating women, especially one to two months after delivery. Since the baby does not breastfeed in large quantities, it is easy for milk to accumulate and cause inflammation. Symptoms include high fever and breast pain. Some women with acute mastitis have a high fever, even up to 40 degrees. So if acute mastitis causes a fever, how should we lower the temperature?

Treatment:

1

General treatment: When the body temperature of acute mastitis is lower than 38.5℃, you don't need antipyretics. It's best to drink more water and pay close attention to changes in the condition. Or you can use physical cooling methods, such as wiping the neck, armpits, groin and other parts with warm water or alcohol. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5℃, you can take antipyretics, such as indomethacin suppositories. At the same time, eat more to increase the body's resistance.

2

Anti-inflammatory treatment: Acute mastitis is most likely to cause fever, up to 40 degrees Celsius. The most likely cause of the high fever is severe inflammation. The use of antibiotics is essential. Penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics are sufficient. Be careful not to use antibiotics excessively or for too long, otherwise the lump will be difficult to eliminate and may easily become a chronic disease. It is recommended not to breastfeed while taking antibiotics.

3

Symptomatic treatment: In the later stage of acute mastitis, breast pus will form and breast abscess will cause high fever. A puncture and pus extraction test can be performed first, and then the incision can be performed after confirming the presence of pus. It is best not to wait for breast abscess to rupture on its own, because the abscess cavities are often multiple or occur one after another, and the spontaneous rupture cannot be drained completely. Generally speaking, as long as the pus is drained out of the suppurative mastitis, the fever will subside on its own.

Note:

Acute suppurative mastitis can be prevented and should be prevented. It is an indispensable part of women's health care during the postpartum period. Understanding the causes of acute mastitis makes prevention easier. The key is to prevent milk stasis, keep the breast area clean and the physical and mental health of the mother.
