What items are included in the postpartum check-up?

Some mothers are first-time mothers, so there is a lot of knowledge they don’t understand. In addition to making proper adjustments and recovery to your body after childbirth, you also need to have regular physical examinations so that you can understand your body's recovery status in a timely manner. Common follow-up examination items include routine examination, gynecological examination, breast examination, etc. These examinations can more directly reflect the physical condition of the mother. Postpartum check-up is very necessary. Don’t ignore such care. For example, some mothers may experience breast pain, wound inflammation, etc. If you don’t know how to deal with it, the condition may become more serious, so you still have to follow the doctor’s advice.

1. Routine inspection

Measure body weight, blood pressure, and do routine blood and urine tests. In addition, those who already have gestational hypertension should also have their urine protein checked. The nutritional intake and physical recovery status of new mothers can be monitored.

2. Gynecological examination

Gynecological examination includes examination of the vagina, uterus and its appendages and surrounding tissues, leucorrhea, B-ultrasound, pelvic floor examination, etc. The main inspections are: the healing of perineal and vaginal wounds, the color and amount of vaginal secretions, whether there is erosion of the cervix, the recovery of the uterus and the condition of the appendages on both sides, the recovery of the pelvic floor muscle tension, whether there is uterine prolapse and stress urinary incontinence, and the healing of the abdominal wound caused by cesarean section.

3. Breast examination

The main purpose is to check whether the breasts have inflammation or lumps, and to understand the amount of milk secretion and breastfeeding methods. For mothers who have no milk or little milk after delivery, doctors should provide dietary guidance or give them drug treatment.

4. Baby check-up

For infants, doctors only need to observe the baby's complexion, spirit, sucking, crying, nutrition and development (measuring height, weight, head circumference, etc.), and breastfeeding situation. A full body examination is also required to further check for any missed diseases.

5. Postpartum care tips

1. Be sure to rest for one month or one and a half months. For two weeks after delivery, you must stay in bed except for eating and going to the bathroom. If you sit or walk around frequently, it may cause uterine prolapse.

2. Prepare two or three strips of white gauze with a width of about 30-40 cm and a length that can wrap around the abdomen 12 and a half times. After delivery, you should tie a belly band tightly to prevent your internal organs from sagging. Prolapse of internal organs will lead to gynecological diseases, protruding abdomen and ugly body shape. Wearing a belly band can also improve the condition of an obvious lower abdomen before childbirth. Belly bands cannot be replaced by ordinary trousers and abdominal belts. Because not only do they have no effect, they also have a counterproductive effect.

3. In the first two weeks, you can only use warm wine water for sponge bath. The method is to boil half water and half rice wine, add a little salt, soak a towel in it, wring it dry, and rub it on your body. You can take a shower from the third week and take a bath after the full month.
