How to treat vaginal leukoplakia? These are the methods!

First, treatment

1. Systemic treatment, regular check-ups, and attention to the tendency of cancer. Pay attention to cleaning the vulva and find out the cause of the disease. If there is fungal vaginitis, trichomoniasis, excessive leucorrhea or other vaginal inflammatory diseases, appropriate treatment should be given. You can try vitamin A.

2. Corticosteroid ointment and estrogen ointment can be used topically. Or you can use the following: diethylstilbestrol, borneol, menthol, indigo, and lanolin to make an ointment for external use.

Vaginal leukoplakia requires histopathological examination. If the histopathology is difficult to identify, local steroid hormones can be injected, and another biopsy can be performed after the lichenification is removed. In histopathology, it appears as an irregular shape, accompanied by varying degrees of cell changes or loss of polarity. Follow-up biopsies may reveal increased mitotic activity in the epidermis (an early manifestation of atypical hyperplasia).

Third, clinical manifestations

1. Leukoplakia vulvae is often accompanied by itching, even severe itching, and lichen sclerosis is progressive. Pain may occur, especially if a tear occurs.

2. Except for the vestibule and urethral orifice, other parts of the vulva may be affected, mainly the clitoris, labia minora and the inner surface of the labia majora. Fissures and ulcers indicate a poor prognosis. The expansion of the lesion area may cause stenosis of the vaginal opening and failure of atrophy of the labia minora.

3. The characteristics of the skin lesions are basically the same as those of oral leukoplakia. In the early stage, they are single, white patches with loss of elasticity and luster. They can expand and merge with each other. Vaginal discharge is macerated and often thickened. There are also cases where there is only itching in the early stages, which later turns into white spots. In the late stage, the surface is manifested as keratinization, roughness, hardening, pearly white color, and papillary proliferation or atrophy. The patient feels severe itching, and scratching may lead to redness, swelling, cracking and ulceration.

4. In the late stage, the skin lesions enlarge and harden, and there is a possibility of secondary canceration.
