What are the causes of inverted nipples?

The development of nipples determines whether women can breastfeed normally in the future. Usually, many people do not pay much attention to the development of nipples during puberty because they do not have enough knowledge about the two sexes and breasts are a relatively private part. As a result, they suffer from inverted nipples but do not know the cause. In fact, inverted nipples mainly include congenital malformations, physiological factors, hormones or incorrect underwear selection, which are all factors that lead to inverted nipples.

What causes inverted nipples?

Clinical observation shows that inverted nipples are mostly congenital malformations, but there are also acquired causes such as nipple and breast infection (mastitis), trauma, tumors, and surgery (after giant breast reduction surgery). Congenital inverted nipple is often due to poor development of smooth muscles in the nipple and areola. The nipple contains the openings of 10-20 milk ducts, which are surrounded by smooth muscle that is an extension of the areolar muscles. The smooth muscle extends to the dermis of the nipple, and these muscle bundles pull inward, causing the nipple to be inverted.

Some are caused by incomplete development of the mammary ducts, which fail to become ductalized and are instead pulled like a solid cord. Some are caused by a lack of supporting tissue deep in the nipple. For secondary inverted nipples, or inverted nipples caused by obvious reasons such as infection, surgery, or trauma, in addition to later plastic surgery and repair, the cause should be treated. However, if nipple inversion occurs without obvious cause, especially unilateral inversion, you should be alert to the occurrence of breast cancer.

The treatment of inverted nipple needs to be as cautious as breast augmentation surgery. You should choose a regular medical institution to undergo the surgery, so as to achieve the best effect of inverted nipple correction treatment.
