Can I still do my nails while breastfeeding?

Everyone has a love for beauty. Many ladies who love beauty will get manicures, and the colorful nails are indeed beautiful and very attractive. Even some breastfeeding mothers can't resist the temptation and get manicures. But nail polish contains many toxic substances, so can breastfeeding mothers get their nails done?

Mothers who are pregnant or breastfeeding must not use it, because nail polish contains trace amounts of chemicals that can be easily inhaled by the baby and affect the baby's growth.

1. Nail polish is basically made of nitrocellulose as the raw material, combined with chemical solvents such as acetone, ethyl acetate, ethyl lactate, and tincture of phthalic acid. This kind of nail polish can make the nails bright and shiny when applied on the nails, and will not fade for a long time, so it is loved by people. However, most of these raw materials have certain biological toxicity and should be avoided from entering the human body to prevent chronic poisoning.

2. Nail polish contains a substance called phthalate. If it is absorbed by the human body for a long time, it is not only very harmful to human health, but also most likely to cause miscarriage or birth of deformed babies in pregnant women. During the breastfeeding period, these harmful ingredients will also enter the baby's body through breast milk. Trace amounts of harmful substances entering the adult body will not cause any obvious harm in the short term and may also be excreted from the body. But for weak babies, the baby's health is more important than beautiful nails.

Dangers of applying nail polish during breastfeeding:

1. Nail polish causes female infertility

Nail polish is said to contain harmful substances such as toluene, dibutyl phthalate, and formaldehyde. These substances are highly volatile and can quickly produce a dizzying odor when applying nail polish. Dibutyl phthalate in the solvent component can cause endocrine system disorders. Long-term exposure to women may cause infertility or give birth to deformed babies. Some studies have shown that phthalates are particularly harmful to the organs below the fetus' waist and may cause genital malformations.

2. Nail polish causes male infertility

It should be noted that nail polish also has an impact on the fetus that cannot be ignored. Nail polish has the highest phthalate content among cosmetics. It can enter the body through women's respiratory system and skin. If used excessively, it will not only increase women's risk of breast cancer, but also endanger the reproductive system of their future male babies. There are reports from abroad that if mothers use nail polish and cosmetics containing phthalates during breastfeeding, the possibility of their children suffering from infertility or impotence when they grow up will increase.

Therefore, women should try to avoid applying nail polish when it is not necessary to reduce the harm to the body. They should avoid such items for the health of their children during breastfeeding.
