How to take ethinyl estradiol cyproterone acetate tablets?

Ethinyl estradiol cyproterone acetate tablets are an oral contraceptive. In addition to its contraceptive effect, it also has a certain therapeutic effect on acne caused by androgens in women. It also has a certain therapeutic effect on hirsutism, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc. in women. When taking this drug, you should understand some usage and dosage, and understand some contraindications of the drug.

1. No hormonal contraceptives used in the past (past 1 month)

The medication should be started on the first day of a woman's natural menstrual cycle (i.e. the first day of menstrual bleeding). It can also be started on days 2-5, but it is recommended to use a barrier contraceptive method during the first 7 days of the first treatment cycle.

2. Switching from combined hormonal contraceptives (combined oral contraceptives/COCs), vaginal rings, or transdermal patches

Women should start taking ethinyl estradiol cyproterone acetate tablets preferably immediately after taking the last hormonal tablet of the original COC, but at the latest at the end of the original COC off period or the end of the period of using hormone-free tablets. If a vaginal ring or transdermal patch is used, women should take ethinyl estradiol cyproterone acetate tablets preferably on the day of its removal and at the latest before the start of the next use.

3. Switching from the progestogen-releasing intrauterine system (IUS)

You can switch from the minipill to combined cyproterone acetate tablets at any time (on the day of removal for implants or IUS, on the day of the next injection for injectables), but it should be recommended that in all these cases, a barrier method of contraception should be added during the first 7 days of medication.

4. After early pregnancy abortion

You can start taking the medication immediately. In this case, no additional contraceptive method is needed.
