How to perform amniocentesis?

A puncture examination is a prenatal diagnostic method that is designed to further determine the health of the fetus. For example, when doing Down syndrome screening, amniocentesis can be performed for further diagnosis. Amniocentesis is relatively not particularly dangerous. Of course, you must go to a regular hospital for such a diagnosis, listen to the doctor's advice, don't be nervous, and cooperate with the doctor to do the examination.

First step: B-ultrasound

Expectant mothers with indications should first undergo B-ultrasound to determine the position of the placenta and the condition of the fetus to avoid accidental injury to the placenta;

Step 2: Disinfection

After selecting the insertion point, disinfect the skin, spread a disinfectant towel, perform local anesthesia, and use a spinal puncture needle with a needle core to vertically pierce the selected point;

Step 3: Pumping Amniotic Fluid

When the needle passes through the abdominal wall and uterine wall, there is a feeling of missing twice, and the needle core is removed; use a 2 ml syringe to draw out 2 ml of amniotic fluid and discard it. This section of amniotic fluid may contain maternal cells; use a 20 ml empty needle to draw out 20 ml of amniotic fluid, and put them into 2 sterile test tubes respectively, and cover them;

Step 4: Observation

Remove the needle, cover with sterile gauze, apply pressure for - minutes, and let the expectant mother rest in bed for 2 hours; after culturing the amniotic fluid for 7-14 days, the chromosome karyotype is obtained, and then the chromosome is observed and analyzed to see if it is distorted.

Step 5: Go home and wait for the report

Go home and stay in bed to observe the condition. Avoid abdominal compression, excessive walking and lifting heavy objects in the next few days.
