Getting pregnant and having children are the most important life goals for women, and in order to have a smooth delivery, the body must meet the conditions for a normal delivery. For example, there must be enough open space at the cervix. A small cervix has a huge impact on childbirth, and women need to pay great attention to it. Let’s take a look at whether a normal birth is possible with a small cervix. What are the impacts? During the menstrual cycle, a normal cervix is affected by ovarian endocrine hormones and is blocked by cervical mucus, called the cervical mucus plug, which mechanically separates the uterine cavity from the vagina. The cervix is only connected to the outside world during the menstrual period, ovulation period, or when there is a lesion in the cervical opening. The tube between the internal and external openings of the cervix is called the cervical canal. Under normal circumstances, the diameter of the external opening of the cervix is about 0.5 cm, and it is round in nulliparous women. If the external cervical opening is too small to allow a thin probe to enter, it is called excessive cervical stenosis. This disease can hinder sperm from moving upward into the uterine cavity and cause infertility. Common causes of excessive cervical stenosis include: ① Congenital cervical stenosis is relatively rare and is often accompanied by uterine hypoplasia. There is currently a lack of effective treatment. ② Acquired excessive stenosis of the cervical opening: This is common in cases of cervicitis, where electrocautery of the cervix is performed or certain corrosive drugs are used in the vagina or cervical canal, causing adhesions. Occasionally, it is caused by improper handling during surgical repair of cervical trauma. Treatment can be done with instrumental dilation and occasionally cervical adhesion incision. Because under normal circumstances, blood clots will be discharged smoothly. Compared with sperm, no matter how small the cervical opening is, it has an absolute advantage. Unless there is inflammation in the uterus that has some effect on the entry of sperm, it will definitely not affect the entry of sperm into the uterus. There are more than 150 causes of infertility.
