Uterine contractions are a normal physiological phenomenon before the birth of the fetus. For women, uterine contractions are a good thing, as they represent the results of their hard work after nine months. Some pregnant women experience frequent uterine contractions, and many of them develop a fearful mentality. So, will frequent uterine contractions lead to fetal hypoxia? What's going on?

In the weeks before delivery, the uterine muscles are more sensitive and there will be irregular uterine contractions that are short-lived, weak, or limited to the lower abdomen or groin area. If it stops after several hours, it will not cause the cervix to open or the fetal head to descend, so it is not labor and is called false labor. This type of contraction is irregular, non-cyclical, and painless. Some pregnant women can even feel irregular uterine contractions during the second trimester. If you have frequent contractions and lower abdominal pain, you need to go to the hospital for examination in time.

There are many types of uterine contractions. Usually, uterine contractions will not affect the fetus, but if there are tonic contractions, it will cause fetal hypoxia and cause fetal intrauterine distress. Regular uterine contractions before 37 weeks of pregnancy may lead to miscarriage or abortion.

During pregnancy, it may be easier to have some false labor contractions. Generally, if it is normal, there is no big problem. However, if it happens frequently, it may indicate that your baby is suffering from hypoxia. If it is serious, you need to see a doctor.

There is a possibility of false labor in the late pregnancy. As long as the fetal movement is normal, there will be no problem. If the separation of the two kidneys of the fetus does not exceed 1 cm, there is no big problem and the examination can be carried out. It is recommended to observe and count the fetal movements to see if the fetus is normal. If frequent uterine contractions cause bleeding, hospitalization is required.
