What are the side effects of progesterone tablets?

Progesterone tablets are oral progestin drugs that can promote the secretion of the endometrium. In addition, they can prevent cancer caused by estrogen or endometrial hyperplasia. When taking progesterone tablets, you should also understand some side effects. For example, it may cause vaginal bleeding in women, vomiting and abdominal pain, and often cause breast pain. If the symptoms are more obvious, you should seek medical attention in time.

Some women may experience breakthrough bleeding after taking this drug, and dydrogesterone may also cause other side effects, such as: slight bleeding, changes in menstrual blood volume, amenorrhea and menstrual discomfort, as well as vomiting and abdominal pain.

There are also some changes in liver function. Some women may experience breast pain and itching, while others may experience skin allergies, urticaria, depression, headaches, migraines, mental tension, edema, changes in libido, etc. However, there have been no reports of sequelae due to overdose of this drug.

The drug is extremely mildly toxic, but overdose may cause nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and dizziness. In case of overdose, gastric lavage should be performed within 2-3 hours. There is no specific antidote, and symptomatic treatment should be adopted.

Take the drug with caution! Dydrogesterone tablets, like all progestin products, should not be used in the following situations: unexplained vaginal bleeding; severe functional disorders: liver tumors (current or past history), Dubin-Johnson syndrome, Potor syndrome, jaundice; diseases or symptoms that occur or worsen during pregnancy or when using sex hormones, such as severe pruritus, obstructive jaundice, herpes during pregnancy, porphyria, and otosclerosis; those who are known to be allergic to dydrogesterone.
