What are the treatments for severe cervical erosion?

Cervical erosion is divided into three stages, including first-degree, second-degree and third-degree erosion. The third degree is severe cervical erosion, which is also a relatively serious gynecological disease that develops among chronic cervicitis. The main causative factors are multiple miscarriages, unclean sexual life, pathogen invasion, and acute cervicitis caused by cervical infection. If not treated in time, cervicitis may become chronic and easily develop into erosion. Let’s take a look at the treatment methods for severe cervical erosion.

1. Cervical erosion is divided into three degrees according to the size of the area: 1. Mild (first degree): the erosion area is less than one-third of the entire cervical area; 2. Moderate (second degree): the erosion area occupies one-third to two-thirds of the entire cervical area; 3. Severe (third degree): the erosion area occupies more than two-thirds of the entire cervical area. In clinical practice, local treatment is recommended as the main approach for severe cervical erosion, and appropriate treatment methods are used according to different pathological types.

2. Physical therapy: Use various physical methods to make the columnar epithelium on the surface of cervical erosion necrotize and fall off, and be covered by new squamous epithelium. It takes 3-4 weeks for the wound to heal, and 6-8 weeks for deeper lesions. Commonly used clinical methods include laser, freezing, infrared coagulation and microwave. Regular follow-up examinations are required after treatment to observe the healing of the wound until it is completely healed, and to check whether there is cervical stenosis.

3. Drug treatment: Local drug treatment is suitable for cases with relatively small erosion area and shallow inflammatory infiltration. There are many proven recipes and formulas in traditional Chinese medicine, such as Mi Ling Suppository. Aoping has antiviral, antitumor and immunomodulatory activities. One pill is inserted deep into the vagina close to the cervix every other day. A course of treatment is 7 times and it can be used repeatedly. 3. Surgical treatment: For those with deeper and wider erosion or involving the cervical canal, cervical cone excision or loop electrosurgical excision procedure can be considered.
