What are the causes of ectopic pregnancy?

Ectopic pregnancy is a common disease of ectopic pregnancy. Generally speaking, a normal pregnancy in the human body is that the sperm and egg combine in the fallopian tube to form a fertilized egg and then swim to the uterus for implantation and development. However, when the fertilized egg develops outside the uterine cavity, it is called an ectopic pregnancy. The reasons are introduced below.

1. Surgery

Nowadays, many women choose to give birth by caesarean section, and the number of patients with ectopic pregnancies occurring in uterine scars is also increasing day by day; appendicitis perforation urgently requires surgical treatment, and appendectomy increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy by 1.8 times.

2. Improper contraceptive methods

Contraceptive pills affect the levels of estrogen and progesterone, which in turn affects the peristalsis of the fallopian tube wall, ciliary activity, and secretion of epithelial cells. If the hormones are out of balance, it will affect the delivery of the fertilized egg and cause fallopian tube pregnancy. Some women lack self-protection awareness and abuse birth control pills without long-term contraceptive measures, which may lead to ectopic pregnancy.

3. Genital tract inflammation

Common gynecological inflammations include vaginitis, cervicitis, etc., which may ascend to the fallopian tubes and cause fallopian tube inflammation. If not effectively treated, when the body's own defense mechanism is damaged, it can lead to inflammation of the tissues around the fallopian tubes and affect normal conception.

4. Repeated abortion

When a woman undergoes repeated abortions, it will cause great damage to her uterus, making the uterus unsuitable for the implantation of the fertilized egg. Therefore, the more abortions you have, the more likely it is to cause ectopic pregnancy.

5. Smoking and drinking

Heavy smoking and drinking can also increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy. Studies have shown that nicotine and alcohol can affect the movement of fallopian tube cilia and induce ectopic pregnancy. According to statistics, the incidence rate among smokers is 1.5-4 times higher than that among non-smokers. Therefore, this is one of the causes of ectopic pregnancy.
