What causes hydrosalpinx?

Hydrosalpinx is a gynecological disease with a relatively high incidence rate among women. If it is not treated in time or the treatment method is incorrect, it will not only damage women's health, but also cause infertility or ectopic pregnancy in severe cases. Therefore, female friends must attach great importance to this disease and ensure early detection and early treatment. So what exactly causes hydrosalpinx?

Hydrosalpinx is a common type of chronic fallopian tube inflammation. After fallopian tube inflammation, the secretions of mucosal cells accumulate in the tubal lumen due to adhesion and atresia, or adhesions of the isthmus and fimbria occur due to fallopian tube inflammation, resulting in blockage and formation of hydrosalpinx. When the pus cells in the tubal lumen are absorbed, they eventually become watery liquid. Sometimes the liquid is absorbed and an empty shell is left, which appears as hydrosalpinx during angiography.

During the acute phase of fallopian tube inflammation, patients often have a history of abdominal pain. However, after the fallopian tube hydrops or the accumulated water is absorbed by the body, the inflammation is often cured long ago. Therefore, abdominal pain symptoms usually do not occur in fallopian tube hydrops. However, since the lumens of the dilated and non-dilated parts of the fallopian tubes can still communicate when hydrosalpinx occurs, patients will often experience intermittent vaginal discharge. Generally speaking, infertility is often the most obvious symptom of hydrosalpinx. In addition, some patients with hydrosalpinx may also experience symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, increased vaginal discharge, and watery leucorrhea.

Since water in the fallopian tubes will block the passage of sperm, it will have a great impact on fertility. However, many women do not understand why water accumulates in the fallopian tubes?

1. Chronic salpingitis: The fimbria of the fallopian tube will become adhered and closed due to inflammatory infection, and the leaked fluid and exudate in the lumen of the fallopian tube will slowly gather. This is the main cause of hydrosalpinx.

2. Pyroses in the fallopian tube: Generally refers to the pus cells and necrotic tissue originally in the lumen being decomposed and cleared by the engulfed cells, and the pus gradually turns into clear watery fluid, causing hydrosalpinx.

3. Long-term tubal ligation: Long-term tubal ligation can also cause hydrosalpinx. Some hydrosalpinx is not caused by fallopian tube inflammation, but appears after tubal sterilization.

4. Caused by surgery: If the surgery is not done carefully, hydrosalpinx may occur. Sometimes women bleed during surgery and form blood clots. It is also possible that the lining of the fallopian tube is damaged during surgery. Some hospitals also cause hydrosalpinx due to lax disinfection.
