Does the presence of a corpus luteum in the ovary mean pregnancy?

Women will produce a corpus luteum during pregnancy, but the presence of a corpus luteum does not necessarily mean that they are pregnant. They still need to go to the hospital for formal examinations. Women will form a corpus luteum after the menstrual cycle and after pregnancy. After 2 to 3 months of pregnancy, the corpus luteum will slowly atrophy. If the corpus luteum function is insufficient, it will easily lead to women being unable to conceive successfully. Timely examination and treatment are required.

In each menstrual cycle, a mature egg is released from the ovary. After ovulation, the follicular fluid flows out, the pressure in the follicular cavity drops, the follicular wall collapses, forming many folds, the follicular granules and endometrial cells of the follicular wall invade inward, and the follicular outer membrane is surrounded by connective tissue to form a corpus luteum. The corpus luteum is yellow in appearance.

The corpus luteum is a vascularized gland-like structure that is rapidly transformed from the follicle after ovulation. If the corpus luteum is not fertilized, it is called the menstrual corpus luteum. If fertilized, it is called the corpus luteum of pregnancy. After ovulation, the follicular wall collapses, the granulosa layer forms wrinkles inward, and there is bleeding in the capillaries in the inner layer of the follicular membrane. After the wound heals, the follicular cavity is closed and filled with serous fluid and blood.

At the same time, the basement membrane collapses, and connective tissue and blood vessels grow into the granulosa layer. Under the action of luteinizing hormone, the granulosa cells and the inner layer cells of the theca divide and proliferate. The cells become polygonal, with yellow granules and lipid droplets in the cytoplasm, and are yellow, hence the name. The majority of luteal cells are granulosa cells, which are large, lightly colored, and secrete progesterone; theca luteal cells are small, most of which are located at the periphery of the corpus luteum, have fewer cells, and their nuclei and cytoplasm are darker than those of luteal cells, and secrete estrogen.

After the released egg is fertilized, the corpus luteum continues to grow into the corpus luteum of pregnancy. The corpus luteum produces estrogen and progesterone. The corpus luteum of pregnancy plays a very important role during pregnancy. It can control the ovaries to reduce the discharge of eggs, thereby excluding subsequent sperm from entering and combining with the egg for fertilization. To ensure the normal development of the previous fertilized egg. It will exist even after giving birth, so generally speaking, it will take 4 years before you get pregnant again.
