What to do if you have premature menopause

If a woman experiences premature menopause, it may be due to illness and she should go to the hospital for examination in time, especially to check ovarian function and hormone secretion. In addition, she should also have a uterine examination and a chromosome examination. Conduct pituitary function examinations. Only by identifying the cause of the disease can symptomatic treatment be given to avoid causing greater harm to health.

1. Uterine examination:

(1) Hysteroscopy: To understand the depth, width, and shape of the hysterectomy cavity, whether there are any deformities or adhesions, and to take samples of the endometrium to examine for pathological changes.

(2) Laparoscopic examination: Direct observation of the appearance of the uterus and gonads to exclude congenital developmental abnormalities and, if necessary, obtain an ovarian biopsy. Recommended reading: What are the dietary therapies for treating amenorrhea?

(3) Iodine oil radiography of the uterine axis and fallopian tubes: to understand the morphology of the uterine cavity, whether there are any deformities, whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed, and to exclude tuberculosis.

(4) Drug test examination: progesterone and estrogen test to observe whether the endometrium responds.

2. Pituitary function test:

(1) Measure the PSH and LH levels in the blood: if they are higher than normal, it indicates ovarian dysfunction; if they are lower than normal, it indicates pituitary dysfunction or higher central nervous system dysfunction.

(2) Pituitary stimulation test: Generally, 15 to 30 minutes after taking the medicine, the LH value is 2 to 4 times higher than before taking the medicine, indicating that the pituitary function is good. If it does not increase or increases very little, it means that the disease may be in the pituitary.

(3) Determination of prolactin (PRL) in the blood: If PRL is less than 50ug/ml, further PRL stimulation or inhibition test should be performed to differentiate functional increased secretion of PRL from pituitary adenoma.

(4) Sella turcica X-ray, MRI, etc.: to exclude pituitary tumors.

3. Chromosome examination: exclude abnormalities of sexual development.

Expert tips: There are many factors that lead to amenorrhea. Don’t be too nervous when amenorrhea occurs. To find out the cause, you can do a gynecological examination, such as curettage and laparoscopy. Afterwards, mental adjustments or drug treatments should be carried out according to the type of amenorrhea. The primary disease can be cured, physiological functions can be restored, and the psychological burden can be relieved.

4. Ovarian function test:

(1) Vaginal mucus crystal examination: to understand the estrogen level.

(2) Cervical mucus crystal examination: to understand the estrogen level and whether there is any influence of progesterone.

(3) Basal body temperature measurement: to understand whether ovulation and corpus luteum function occur.
