Is amniocentesis dangerous to the fetus? Is amniocentesis necessary?

Being able to give birth to a child for your beloved one and make your life and family complete is probably the happiest thing for women. During pregnancy, some pregnant women may be advised by doctors to have an amniocentesis test. They often have doubts about this: Is amniocentesis dangerous to the fetus?

1. If you do not have a special family genetic disease or are not doing Down syndrome screening, it is best not to go for amniocentesis. Although amniocentesis is very safe now, it still has certain risks. First of all, the fetus may be harmed in the process of extracting amniotic fluid, because there is fetal movement in the second trimester, and the fetus may be harmed if you are not careful.

2. Amniocentesis is the process of using a very fine needle to extract amniotic fluid from the uterus. Since it touches the uterus, it may cause uterine contractions and thus premature birth. Therefore, before amniocentesis, you should take some pregnancy-preserving drugs and some drugs that can inhibit uterine contractions to prevent premature birth.

3. When patients need amniocentesis, it is best to choose the second trimester, because at this time there is more amniotic fluid in the uterus and the fetus is smaller, which is more conducive to extracting amniotic fluid. In the late pregnancy, the fetus is larger and the amniotic fluid is very little, so it is not conducive to amniocentesis.

Note:

Although medicine is very advanced now, amniocentesis is still a little dangerous. If the patient really needs amniocentesis, it is best to go to a regular hospital for it. Do not seek medical treatment casually to avoid harming the baby.
