Is it difficult to get pregnant if the uterus is small?

Generally speaking, the size of a woman's uterus should be between five and seven centimeters, and the width should be four to five centimeters. The uterus usually has good contractility, which can lock the development of the fetus and make it gradually grow. But does a small uterus have an impact on pregnancy?

"Small uterus" means that the uterus is still smaller than normal after puberty, which is medically known as "uterine hypoplasia" and is often accompanied by symptoms such as infrequent menstruation, amenorrhea or amenorrhea. The main cause of uterine dysplasia is endocrine. Dysfunction, especially ovarian dysfunction, causes insufficient secretion of estrogen and progesterone. "Small uterus" generally refers to the primordial uterus or immature uterus. The primordial uterus is extremely small, only 1 to 3 cm long, as big as a broad bean. Most of them have no uterine cavity and are solid muscular uteruses. They are often diagnosed when they see a doctor because of the absence of menstruation after puberty and are infertile.

Occasionally, the primordial uterus has a uterine cavity and endometrium, with cyclical abdominal pain or hematochezia that requires surgical removal. The size and shape of the immature uterus are similar to that of an infant or prepubertal uterus, with a smaller volume and a relatively longer cervix. The ratio of the length of the uterine body to the cervix is approximately 1:2, while the normal ratio is 2:1. Sometimes, due to incomplete development of the anterior or posterior wall of the uterus, the uterus appears extremely anteflexed or retroflexed. Clinically, the main reasons for seeking medical treatment are infertility, dysmenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, etc. An immature uterus makes it difficult to get pregnant, but there is still hope of getting pregnant after treatment. The main treatment method is artificial cyclic hormone therapy, which is to supplement estrogen and progesterone. You can also supplement vitamin E or use Chinese medicine to assist in treatment.

After treatment, the uterus can develop close to normal to a certain extent. The pregnancy rate of mild dysplasia after treatment is as high as 30%, while the pregnancy rate of severe dysplasia after treatment is only about 15%. Once pregnant, care should be taken to prevent miscarriage or premature birth. But if you are over 30 years old, it will be difficult to recover, so early detection and early treatment are necessary. If a girl experiences symptoms such as infrequent menstruation, amenorrhea, or severe dysmenorrhea after puberty, she should go to the hospital for relevant examinations in time to rule out uterine hypoplasia.

In addition, female friends should pay special attention: if the ovarian function is impaired, in addition to causing uterine hypoplasia, it often leads to anovulation or luteal insufficiency. These adverse factors can cause female infertility. Before getting pregnant, you must go to the hospital for a comprehensive check-up to understand what defects you have that are not conducive to pregnancy, so that you can achieve good birth and upbringing.
