What to do if pregnant women have cold

After pregnancy, if it is normal, the blood flow rate in the body will increase accordingly, and the body temperature of the pregnant woman will rise at this time. If you feel cold after becoming pregnant, for example, your hands and feet are cold, this is most likely due to insufficient blood flow in your body, poor blood circulation, or uneven nutrition intake. You must pay attention to this matter, otherwise it may affect both you and the fetus.

Supplement iron to increase blood production: Insufficient blood volume is an important cause of cold hands and feet, and iron helps blood production. Especially for pregnant women, it is even more important to supplement iron in an appropriate amount. Even in the later stages of pregnancy, the daily intake needs to be increased by about 40 mg.

Improve blood circulation: During pregnancy, as the fetus gradually grows, the uterus begins to compress the veins in the pelvic cavity, which can easily cause blood return to be blocked, causing blood to accumulate in the lower limbs, indirectly affecting the circulation of the extremities and causing cold hands and feet. Therefore, it is recommended that pregnant women wear elastic socks; put a small pillow on their legs to raise their legs when sleeping or resting at night; massage or apply hot compresses to the lower limbs at appropriate times. These practices will help improve blood circulation.

Keep your hands and feet warm: If pregnant women have cold hands and feet, they should pay more attention to keeping their hands and feet warm, such as wearing thicker cotton socks or gloves. Pregnant women can soak their hands and feet in hot water or boiled rice wine at home to keep them warmer. When preparing rice wine, you can add ginger or onion and cook them together. After boiling, place your hands and feet on the rice wine water first and use the heat to achieve the warming effect.

Some women also experience cold hands and feet and body due to physical weakness after pregnancy. At this time, they can choose Chinese herbal medicine to supplement their body and improve their physical fitness. For example, you can choose Chinese medicinal materials such as ginseng and salvia miltiorrhiza for tonic, or you can use donkey-hide gelatin or brown sugar water to nourish the body and speed up blood circulation.
