What causes a lump in the chest? Common causes of chest lumps

Women must pay attention to lumps in their chests. Common causes include breast diseases. Breast hyperplasia, breast fibroids, mastitis, and breast cancer can all cause breast lumps. If a lump is found, it must be checked promptly to avoid unnecessary harm.

1. Breast hyperplasia Breast hyperplasia can cause mild to moderate tenderness in the chest. The lumps will change with the menstrual cycle. There will often be obvious pain during menstruation and the lumps will become larger. After menstruation, the pain will be significantly reduced and the lumps will also decrease. Moreover, the lump is usually on the edge of the breast, usually on one side. When it moves to the edge, there will be a noticeable sense of shaking.

2 Breast fibroids Breast fibroids are the most common benign breast tumors, usually occurring in women aged 18-25 years old and are relatively rare after the age of 40. The lumps are mostly regular circles, growing on one or both sides of the breast, with smooth skin on the surface and a hard texture. The diameter is usually no more than 4 cm, with no adhesion to the skin, clear borders, and can be pushed forward. Breast fibroadenomas are painless and grow slowly. It is normal for fibroadenomas to grow within 5 mm within a year.

3 Mastitis Most cases of mastitis occur during the lactation period of women, while mastitis that occurs during the non-lactation period is generally plasma cell mastitis. This type of mastitis is a chronic non-bacterial inflammation of the breast, which often presents symptoms of breast tenderness, redness and swelling, and lumps may be felt, and may even develop into breast abscesses.

4 Breast cancer There is no obvious pain in the early stages of breast cancer. It is usually a single small lump or nodule on the surface with no obvious boundary from the surrounding tissues. It is not painful to touch and is usually fixed. Breast cancer tumors grow rapidly, and often by the time they are discovered, the lumps are already very large. In the late stages, they may even cause local skin ulceration and infiltration, causing pain. It can also lead to nipple retraction and metastasis to the axillary, supraclavicular lymph nodes and organs, which is life-threatening.
