What are the symptoms of vaginitis?

For women, vaginitis is a very common gynecological disease. Generally speaking, vaginitis is often accompanied by symptoms such as vaginal odor, vulvar itching, frequent urination, urgency, pain when urinating, pain during sexual intercourse, etc., which cast a great shadow on normal life. The specific symptoms are introduced below.

Detailed symptoms of vaginitis:

The most common symptom of vaginitis is abnormal vaginal discharge. Abnormal vaginal discharge often increases in volume, has an unpleasant odor, or is accompanied by vaginal itching, ulcers, or pain. It is usually thicker than normal discharge and changes in color, which may be like soft cheese, or yellow, light green, or bloody.

Bacterial infections of the vagina often cause white, grayish white, or yellowish discharge with a foul or fishy odor. This smell becomes stronger after sexual intercourse or washing with soap. Because both of these conditions will reduce the acidity of the vagina, allowing bacteria to multiply faster. In addition, vaginal stinging and mild itching may occur.

Candida (yeast) infections develop more slowly, with severe itching and burning of the vulva and vagina, and redness and stinging of the skin. Vaginal discharge is creamy, thick, and sticks to the vaginal walls. Symptoms may be worse in the week before your period. Women with poorly controlled diabetes and those taking antibiotics are more likely to have relapses.

Vaginal discharge is white, light gray-green, or light yellow foamy discharge that often appears suddenly after menstruation and has an unpleasant odor and severe itching.

Watery vaginal discharge can often be caused by cancer of the vagina, cervix, or endometrium. Cervical polyps may cause bleeding after sex. Sometimes vulvar itching or discomfort is caused by HPV infection or carcinoma in situ, an early-stage cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body and can be easily removed with surgery.

Painful vulvar ulcers may be a herpes infection or an abscess, while painless ulcers may be cancer or syphilis. Pubic lice can cause vulvar itching (pediculosis pubis).
