The chance of placenta previa growing

Placenta previa is a type of high-risk pregnancy, and many pregnant women are found to have placenta previa during prenatal checkups. So, what is the probability of a central placenta previa growing again? Generally speaking, once a central placenta previa occurs, the chance of it growing again is very slim. What needs attention is the medical care during pregnancy.

What is the probability of placenta previa growing?

The normal adhesion of the embryo is to the posterior wall, anterior wall or outer wall of the uterine body. If the embryo adheres to the bottom of the uterus or covers the internal os of the cervix, and is smaller than the presenting part of the fetus, it is called placenta previa. Uterine wall damage is the main cause of placenta previa. For example, in women who have undergone cesarean section, abortion, uterine fibroid surgery, etc., the uterine wall and uterine lining are damaged, and the blood supply to the part is poor during pregnancy. In order to get more nutrients, the fetus will automatically expand the area, thereby covering the os of the uterus and causing placenta previa.

After 28 weeks of pregnancy, the rate of embryo expansion slows down, the rate of uterine expansion accelerates, and the relative position of the embryo and the internal os of the cervix changes. Once the embryo separates from the cervix, it is very easy to cause internal bleeding in pregnant women. Therefore, mothers who are pregnant with their second child, especially those who had a caesarean section for the first child, should pay special attention to prenatal checkups to determine whether placenta previa occurs.

What to do if placenta previa occurs?

1. There must be someone at home to look after the pregnant woman, and the pregnant woman should not be left alone. Since there are no signs of placenta previa bleeding, the bleeding is irregular and unpredictable.

2. Pay more attention to diet to prevent constipation from increasing abdominal pressure and causing placental separation and bleeding.

3. Pregnant women are definitely not allowed to have sexual intercourse.

4. Have regular prenatal checkups to determine which type of placenta previa you have. If it is central, listen to your doctor and be hospitalized when necessary.

5. Relatives should donate blood in advance to prevent the pregnant woman from using expensive blood for intravenous injection when she has internal bleeding.

How does central placenta previa cause bleeding?

Central placenta previa is usually covered at the internal os of the cervix. In the late pregnancy, the uterus contracts irregularly and the lower segment of the uterus expands, which can cause the embryo covering the internal os of the cervix to separate from the endometrium, causing bleeding. Bleeding from placenta previa is related to the degree to which the embryo covers the internal os of the cervix. The larger the area involved, the faster the bleeding and the greater the amount. On the contrary, the bleeding will occur later, or even before or after delivery, and the amount will be less.

How to treat central placenta previa?

(1) Rest in bed. Advise the pregnant woman to sleep on her left side and rest in bed, and give her oxygen.

(2) Prevent infection. Carefully observe infection-related indicators: body temperature, abdominal pain, female secretions, blood count, etc. Pay attention to hygiene and give antibiotics to prevent infection if bleeding occurs.

(3)Medicine and medical care. Drugs that inhibit uterine contractions can be used under the guidance of a doctor.
