What are the precautions before amniocentesis?

Nowadays, mothers are more concerned about the babies in their belly. Before the babies are born, they start to pay attention to their children's health problems. Therefore, they need to do amniocentesis. Only in this way can they detect the health condition of the baby in the belly. So for such a small operation, relevant preparations need to be made before the operation.

Although amniocentesis has certain risks, its accuracy rate is over 99%. The accuracy of Down syndrome screening is about 70%. Amniocentesis does not require anesthesia because the pain of the injection of anesthetic may be more intense than the amniocentesis itself. Most people will only feel slight pain when the needle is first inserted, similar to the pain of pricking a finger to draw blood, which is bearable. However, there is no need to worry about causing harm to the fetus. During this process, the doctor will carefully avoid the fetus under B-ultrasound monitoring. Although amniocentesis is a very minor operation and does not require anesthesia, it is related to the baby in the belly after all, so mothers should also pay attention to it and pay attention to the following matters:

1. No sexual intercourse is allowed three days before the operation; please take a bath one day before the operation; please empty your bladder 10 minutes before the operation.

2. If you have any abnormalities such as cold, fever, skin infection, etc. 3 to 7 days before the operation, please inform the doctor during the preoperative registration.

3. If you have a history of allergies, special diseases or other situations that need to be explained, please inform the doctor during preoperative registration.

4. You can go home after sitting and resting for at least 2 hours after the operation. It is best for out-of-town patients to stay in the city that night.

5. Do not bathe within 72 hours after the operation. Pay more attention to rest and try to rest for a week. Try to rest in bed for the first three days and it is best to rest at home for the next four days. Avoid extensive exercise, shopping, doing housework, lifting heavy objects and other physical labor.

6. Sexual intercourse is prohibited for half a month after the operation.

7. If you experience abdominal pain, bloating, vaginal discharge, bleeding, fever, etc. within three days after the operation, these are signs that your pregnancy is in a dangerous situation. Please go to the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital as soon as possible.
