The success rate of birth control pills and how to make it more reliable!

There are many kinds of contraceptive pills on the market now, and the success rate of any contraceptive pill cannot be 100%. Everyone must know this. But don’t worry too much. As long as you strictly follow the instructions for taking birth control pills, the success rate of contraception is still very high.

1. Oral contraceptives are unreliable.

That is not the case. Oral contraceptives are a highly reliable method of contraception. It can inhibit ovulation, make cervical mucus thicker, and make the endometrium unsuitable for embryo implantation, thereby achieving the purpose of contraception. If taken according to the instructions, oral contraceptives are almost 100% effective.

2. Oral contraceptives can cause weight gain.

That is not the case. For the vast majority of women, the newer low-dose oral contraceptives do not cause weight gain. Only a small number of women (about 15%) may experience slight weight gain from taking the newer, low-dose oral contraceptives. There are two possible reasons for weight gain while taking oral contraceptives: One reason is fluid retention, which causes the body to retain extra water. Normally, the weight gain will not exceed 2 kg, and this is only a temporary phenomenon, and the weight will return after the medication is stopped. Another reason for weight gain may be an increased appetite, especially during the first three months of taking oral contraceptives. Therefore, if users can control their food intake, this will help control weight gain.

3. Oral contraceptives contain hormones, which are harmful to the human body.

That is not the case. Oral contraceptives are the most studied drugs in history. Most studies show that oral contraceptives are a safe and effective method of birth control for the vast majority of women. As long as you do not belong to the group of people who are contraindicated for combined oral contraceptives, you can use them for a long time. If you don't smoke, you can continue taking oral contraceptives until menopause as long as you wish. In addition, studies have shown that oral contraceptives are not only safe, but also have many health benefits. The hormones in combined oral contraceptives should not be confused with corticosteroids (anti-inflammatory drugs). They are two completely different types of hormones.

4. Oral contraceptives may affect the baby you will have in the future.

That is not the case. Oral contraceptives are a reversible short-term method of contraception. Any residue will be excreted from the body within a few days of stopping the medication. There is evidence that taking oral contraceptives does not affect the health of your future baby. To be on the safe side, it is recommended that you wait until the first menstrual period after stopping the medication before getting pregnant. This will help you prepare for birth more easily.
