What causes a retroverted uterus?

The problem of retroverted uterus is closely related to some bad habits in life, such as multiple artificial abortions, or congenital uterine hypoplasia, as well as inflammation of the uterus and ovaries in women, which may affect it.

1. Multiple artificial abortions or failure to maintain good care after artificial abortions can cause the uterus to tip backwards.

2. Due to congenital hypoplasia of the uterus, the uterine ligaments become loose, causing the bottom of the uterus to tilt backwards or to the left or right.

3. Inflammation of the uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries causes tissue adhesion between the uterine body and the rectum behind it, causing the uterus to move out of its original position and tilt backwards under traction. A posterior or retroflexed uterus can easily cause the cervix to be in an upturned position, making it difficult for the cervix to be immersed in the semen pool and affecting conception.

4. Classification of retroverted uterus: Retroverted uterus is divided into grades I, II and III according to the degree of retroversion of the uterus.

Mild retroverted uterus (grades I-II) generally does not cause symptoms and does not require treatment. Severe retroverted uterus often causes symptoms, mainly lower back pain. In mild cases, there is only soreness and discomfort in the lower back. In severe cases, the entire waist, sacrum and coccyx, and iliac regions on both sides feel sore and uncomfortable. In some patients, the soreness and swelling extend to the lower back and groin on both sides. Lower abdominal soreness and anal distension often coexist, and symptoms are often aggravated by fatigue and menstruation. If not corrected in time, it may also lead to dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, increased leucorrhea, sexual discomfort, miscarriage, infertility, etc. For patients with retroverted uterus, if the retroverted uterus has not corrected itself three months after conception, the displacement of the bladder neck and urethra and the upturned cervix may compress the posterior urethra and cause acute urinary retention.
