How can you find your way when you are lost in the wild? How can you make a fire in the wild?

There are quite a few people whose hobbies are outdoor hiking, wilderness exploration, and camping. This is a very exciting hobby, but it also requires adequate preparation. Otherwise, you will get lost. So how do you identify the direction when you get lost in the wild? How do you get the most important fire source?

How to find the direction when lost in the wild

(1) With the sun, if it is in the morning or evening, you can use the sunrise and sunset to distinguish the direction. my country is located in the northern hemisphere of the earth. At noon, you can see the shadow of your body and the shadow of the leaves. Because the sun at noon is in the south, the shadow of your body and the shadow of the human body are in the north.

(2) Use rocks to identify directions. There are many rocks in the deep mountains. Look for a huge impact rock and observe. The side with green moss on the rock is north, which is dry and clean. The other side that is exposed is south.

(3) Using trees. On rainy days, you can use the branches and leaves of large trees to distinguish north from south. The side with dense branches and leaves that receive ample sunlight is the south, while the side with sparse branches and leaves is the north. You can also identify the direction by looking at the growth rings on a tree stump. Regardless of the tree species, the growth rings are wider in the south and narrower in the north.

(4) Stars can be seen on clear nights. At night, the North Star appears in the northern sky, above the North Pole. Its position remains almost unchanged when viewed from Earth. From ancient times to the present, people have relied on it to guide their direction at night, so people call it a guiding light.

(5) Use the accumulated snow to identify the direction. If it is winter, the snow is difficult to melt due to the sunlight after snowfall, which is the north. The snow melts quickly due to the shade, which is the south. The temperature is higher due to the long sunshine hours, which is the south.

How to start a fire in the wild

The first step is to pay attention to the site selection when making a fire in the wild. You must find a place with water, sheltered from the wind, dry and not prone to causing a surrounding fire. Safety is the first priority.

The second step is to collect the things you need to make a fire, such as dry plants and grasses, wax, flannel, birch bark, tinder, moss, sawdust, paper, pitch pine, dry leaves, fire starters and other flammable materials.

The third step is to find an ignition source. The most common choice is a lighter or a match. If you don't have a lighter, you can also use a magnifying glass (bottom of a wine bottle) to make a fire. In bright sunlight, focus the sun's rays and shine them on the prepared tinder to ignite the tinder.

The final step is to dismantle the items you used to burn the fire when you are done, leaving no wood, charcoal, etc., and put out the fire with dirt, rocks, sand, etc. This may sound laborious, but it is a responsible way to eliminate the long-term effects of wildfires.

What to do if you encounter a bear in the wild

Bears generally don't hurt people on their own initiative, as they don't think people are good to eat. If they don't think you're food and realize you won't hurt them, they'll leave after a little observation.

Be careful if you see a mother bear and her cubs, or bear food. When you enter an area with bears, it's best to hang a bell and whistle along the way. The bear can hear your voice and know that it's a (scary) person coming, and will go away on its own.

Bears can climb trees, so hiding in a tree is generally useless; if you unknowingly enter its territory, back away slowly, keeping your eyes on it. Don't let the bear see that you want to escape, and if it follows you, stop immediately.

Never turn around and run away, because even if you are a sprint champion, you cannot outrun a bear, and running away will make it more determined to chase you!

If it invades your camp, bluff it, act like a super-sized bear, shout loudly, show disdain, and scare it away. The most important thing is to make noise so that it knows you are coming.

Besides, lying on the ground and pretending to be dead may not be effective.
