What is the reason for lower back pain after IUD insertion? What are the side effects of IUD insertion?

Many women choose to use an IUD for contraception after giving birth, but sometimes they experience lower back pain after the insertion. This is a common side effect of IUD insertion. If the lower back pain does not disappear and the pain worsens, you should seek medical attention in time.

1. Side effects of IUD insertion

1. Lower abdominal pain or back pain: A few women may experience this feeling after having the IUD inserted. This is caused by the contraction of the uterus after the IUD is inserted. Sometimes it can also be caused by the IUD being too large or moved to the lower part of the uterus. Mild cases do not require treatment and will generally adapt gradually; severe cases can try indomethacin or other anti-inflammatory drugs for symptomatic treatment; if symptoms persist, a suitable type of ring can be replaced; if B-ultrasound confirms that the contraceptive device has moved downward, the position of the ring can also be corrected.

2. Bleeding: Most women will have a small amount of bleeding 3-4 days after the insertion of the IUD. This can stimulate the uterus to contract, and can also quickly scratch the cervical canal or endometrium and cause bleeding. Therefore, for some women, bleeding after IUD insertion generally does not require treatment and will heal on its own after a week. Occasionally, red discharge or small amounts of bleeding may occur, which can be stopped with general hemostasis.

3. Infection: IUD insertion can cause infection. When inserting an IUD, the doctor will strictly disinfect the woman's vulva, vagina and endometrium, and infection rarely occurs. Infection may occur in women who have a history of genital tract inflammation, or who have sex too early or too frequently after having an IUD inserted.

4. Increased vaginal discharge: If a contraceptive ring with a tail thread is installed, it can also cause a significant increase in cervical secretions, that is, increased vaginal discharge. After a period of time, when the endometrial tissue has fully adapted, at this time, not only will the vaginal discharge increase significantly, but it will also be accompanied by systemic fever, lower abdominal pain and other discomforts. In this case, you need to urgently take anti-inflammatory drugs or go directly to the hospital.

5. Increased menstrual flow: In the early stages of IUD insertion, especially in the first three months, women may experience prolonged menstrual periods or irregular spotting. Many problems are caused by damage to the endometrium, and the situation will improve as the placement time increases.

6. The tail thread is too hard or of inappropriate length: it may cause pain to the man during intercourse or even cause injury during intercourse. You can ask your doctor to cut the tail thread short enough to keep it only inside the cervical canal.

2. Precautions after IUD insertion

Women should not do heavy physical labor within one week after having an IUD inserted;

You should stay in bed and rest within three days, as exerting too much force may cause bleeding and inflammation. You are prohibited from taking a bath or having sex within half a month after the operation. Within three months after the IUD insertion, you should be less active and avoid strenuous physical activity.
