Stunned! Irregular menstruation may be a symptom of teratoma

Teratoma is a common germ cell tumor in the ovaries, which poses a great threat to women's health. However, most of them are benign tumors and can be cured with timely treatment. Women should also develop the habit of physical examinations in their lives and stay away from all factors that induce teratoma. So what are the symptoms of teratoma?

What is a teratoma?

Ovarian teratoma is a common female germ cell tumor, 95% of which are benign, but 2% to 5% are malignant. Teratomas often have no clinical symptoms unless accompanied by infection, rupture, torsion and bleeding, etc., in which case they may cause lower abdominal pain, lower abdominal soreness and other discomforts. Therefore, they are often discovered during physical examinations and gynecological ultrasounds. Teratomas are germ cell tumors that contain oil, hair, skin, and sometimes teeth and bones. They are the most common ovarian tumors. Teratomas are more common in women of childbearing age, but in fact, children who have not had sex, women who have reached menopause, and even men may also suffer from this disease. Not only that, the location of teratomas is not limited to human ovaries. Teratomas with a shape similar to that of a fetus can also grow in the human brain, lungs, lumbar region, mediastinum and other parts.

How to detect ovarian teratoma in girls?

1. Irregular menstruation: Once you have ovarian teratoma, your menstruation will often be light or heavy, and your period will be shortened or prolonged, and sometimes even amenorrhea.

2. Insomnia: Occasionally or often it may cause insomnia, and one can only fall asleep by taking sleeping pills. This will not only lead to a decline in work and life quality, but long-term use of sleeping pills will also lead to irregular menstruation.

3. Easily excited: Once you suffer from ovarian teratoma, you will easily become emotionally excited. Sometimes you can control your excitement, but sometimes you cannot control your excitement.

4. Skin changes: People with ovarian teratoma will lose their luster and their skin will become dry. It is easy to have spots, wrinkles, dry skin, chloasma, etc.

5. Sexual life: If you suffer from ovarian teratoma, your sexual desire will decrease and you will experience pain during sexual intercourse. In severe cases, you may even lose your sexual ability.

B-ultrasound is the best method for diagnosing teratoma

At present, the accuracy rate of B-ultrasound diagnosis of teratoma exceeds 90%. It is not difficult to find teratoma as long as an ultrasound examination of the uterine adnex is done. Therefore, whether it is the child’s entrance physical examination, marriage examination, or pre-pregnancy examination, it should be taken seriously. Especially if no examination is done before pregnancy, once a teratoma is discovered after pregnancy, it will be more difficult for the doctor to deal with it. Because the uterus enlarges and the position of the ovaries changes after pregnancy, they are particularly prone to torsion. Surgical treatment must also take into account the fetus in the uterus, which greatly increases the difficulty of the operation.

The best way to self-examine is by touch: wake up in the morning, empty your bladder, lie flat, bend your legs slightly, and touch the lower abdomen from one side to the other. If a lump is found to be a hard foreign body, it is suspected to be a tumor.

Tip: The cause of teratoma is currently unknown and there is no effective prevention method. The key is to have regular pelvic examinations to ensure early diagnosis and treatment. Patients with teratoma should avoid strenuous exercise to prevent torsion and rupture.
