What causes dizziness when standing up? Or these factors are to blame

Many women often experience this symptom, that is, they feel dizzy after standing up after sitting or squatting. So what are the specific reasons for this phenomenon?

1. Dehydration

Excessive sweating without timely water replenishment can easily lead to dehydration, slower blood circulation, and low blood flow, which can cause a drop in blood pressure.

Dizziness and headache are also important signs of heatstroke in summer. After sweating profusely, remember to replenish water in time, as severe dehydration may be life-threatening.

2. Get up quickly after sitting or lying for a long time

Many people may have had this experience: when you stand up quickly after squatting or sitting down, or after standing for a long time, you feel dizzy, your eyes go dark, and you may even fall.

This condition is called orthostatic hypotension, which is caused by a sudden change in body position (from lying down to standing upright), resulting in a temporary lack of blood supply to the brain. It is more common in the elderly and children.

Generally speaking, short-term and mild orthostatic hypotension is a normal physiological phenomenon. Just be careful not to stand up too quickly and avoid standing for long periods of time.

However, if the dizziness symptoms persist for a long time and are severe, it may be caused by spinal cord lesions, endocrine disorders, anemia and other diseases, and medical treatment is required.

3. Hypoglycemia

When there is not enough food supplement and the brain lacks sufficient supply of glucose, a series of functional disorders will occur, including inattention, slow thinking, dizziness, etc.

The solution is simple, just enjoy a delicious meal!

However, even brief episodes of hypoglycemia can cause irreversible damage to brain function. Therefore, if you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia, you must not endure it or wait, and you must eat in time to bring your blood sugar back to normal.

4. Stroke

Phillips pointed out that if fatigue, difficulty speaking, or numbness and tingling occur at the same time as dizziness and headache, it may be a sign of cerebral vascular embolism (ischemic stroke) and should be treated in the emergency department immediately.

5. Emotional factors

Great emotional stimulation (excessive sadness or excessive joy) may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, resulting in headaches and dizziness. Patients with cardiovascular diseases especially need to avoid large fluctuations in emotions so as not to aggravate their existing condition.
