Can strenuous exercise delay your period?

We all know that irregular menstruation has many symptoms, among which delayed menstruation is one of them. This type is relatively common, but in addition to pregnancy, there are many factors that can also cause delayed menstruation. So, will exercise cause delayed menstruation? What causes delayed menstruation? How should delayed menstruation be treated? Let's take a look together.

Does exercising delay menstruation?

Menstrual irregularity is a common gynecological disease among women, mainly manifested by excessive or insufficient menstrual flow, prohibited menarche time, etc. Because an unhealthy lifestyle such as irregular work and rest, excessive eating, etc. will cause changes in the endocrine environment, which can easily lead to menstrual disorders in women. In addition, some gynecological diseases, uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, etc. are all causes of irregular menstruation in women. Excessive exercise or exercise with changing posture can easily cause irregular menstruation, which may cause menstruation to be unable to be discharged from the body through the cervix and vagina, but to reach the pelvis through both fallopian tubes, causing menstrual blood to flow back, and then cause menstruation and specific uterine wall to implant in the pelvis. This disease is called endometriosis, which can easily cause a series of complications, such as dysmenorrhea, pain during sexual intercourse, and even menstrual disorders, pelvic masses, infertility and other problems. For some female friends, excessive exercise causes irregular menstruation or even amenorrhea. As long as they do not feel very uncomfortable, stop excessive exercise or reduce the intensity of exercise, the body will adjust itself. However, if you experience discomfort such as mood swings, unbearable abdominal pain, breast pain, etc., or if your menstrual period does not improve after a period of excessive exercise, you should seek medical intervention as soon as possible. Otherwise, long-term amenorrhea may cause functional obstruction of the gonad axis, namely the hypothalamus-pituitary-pituitary-ovary, which in turn may affect women's menstrual recovery and even fertility problems. Therefore, running to lose weight is good for the human body, but it must be done in moderation. Autonomic amenorrhea belongs to hypothalamic pituitary amenorrhea, which is the body's response to significant external stimulation. Excessive exercise is an obvious stress response. Under stress, the human body produces adrenocortical growth hormone to release growth hormone, activate the central nervous system, and stimulate the pituitary gland to secrete stress response growth hormone. The growth hormone released by adrenal growth hormone inhibits the secretion of growth hormone released by the hypothalamic pituitary gonadotropin, resulting in a decrease in gonadotropin secretion and causing amenorrhea.
