What preparations should be made before pregnancy?

Looking at the lively children around them, I believe that many newlyweds will have the urge to get pregnant and have children. Pregnancy is a major event in life and there are many preparations to be made. However, many expectant parents don’t know much about these things. What preparations should you make before becoming pregnant? For some couples who want to be parents, they need to look carefully.

1. Vegetarian women should pay attention to insufficient protein intake

Diversify your food, eat more beans and nuts, and drink at least two glasses of milk a day to supplement protein and calcium. Vegetarian women are generally prone to anemia, so it is important to supplement iron. Although iron is mostly found in animal foods, soybeans and egg yolks are also good sources of iron.

2. Follow the guidance of the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents and the Dietary Pagoda, and gradually improve your eating habits to avoid picky eating. Under the premise of not exceeding the total calorie limit, try to eat a variety of foods to ensure balanced and comprehensive nutrition.

3. A balanced intake of protein, minerals and vitamins is very important. Meat, fish, eggs, milk and beans are the main sources of high-quality protein, and the daily supply should be sufficient. The intake of minerals and vitamins should be reasonable. Eat kelp, seaweed and other iodine-rich foods often. Animal liver, dried shrimps, aquatic products, sesame paste and nuts all contain more nutrients such as zinc, copper, calcium and iron. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins.

4. Nutritional adjustment is also necessary in the early stages of pregnancy. For people with good physical constitution and nutritional status, it is sufficient to adjust the nutrition in the three months before pregnancy. For people with average physical constitution and nutritional status, it is best to start supplementing and adjusting nutrition six months before pregnancy. For those who eat too little, nutrient supplements should be added appropriately when necessary, but this should be done under the guidance of a doctor.

5. Folic acid supplementation should be started at least one month before pregnancy and stopped at 400 micrograms per day in the third month of early pregnancy. Foods rich in folic acid include: dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, etc.; fruits include cherries, peaches, apricots, bayberries, strawberries, plums, sour dates, hawthorns, grapes, kiwis, etc.; nuts, cereals, potatoes, animal liver and kidneys, etc.

6. Carefully supplement vitamin B6 under the guidance of a doctor. Taking 10 mg of vitamin B6 daily for 1 to 2 months before pregnancy can prevent pregnancy reactions in early pregnancy.

7. Avoid various food contaminations. Try to choose natural and fresh food, eat less processed food with added preservatives, pigments and instrument additives, pay attention to food hygiene, especially when eating cold dishes in summer, wash the vegetables thoroughly, prepare two sets of cutting boards and knives, separate raw and cooked food, and wash and peel the fruits before eating.

8. Dietary taboos: Try to drink boiled water, do not drink coffee, tea, carbonated drinks and other beverages, do not smoke, and do not drink alcohol. Eat less spicy food. Including various condiments. Do not take supplements indiscriminately.

What preparations should you make before pregnancy? This is something that both expectant parents need to know, because not everyone is suitable for having children. Having children not only requires adequate nutrition for the mother, but it is also very important for the physical health of the expectant mother, so that the fetus is healthier when it is born. There are many preparations that need to be made.
