How to take care of yourself after hysterectomy?

For patients who have had their uterus removed due to uterine fibroids, post-operative care is the topic they are most concerned about. We know that although uterine fibroids are a benign tumor, they are very harmful. Therefore, while we are carrying out effective treatment, we must not ignore the postoperative maintenance issues. Here we will introduce to you what issues you should pay attention to after surgery.

1. Do not use vaginal douching or tub bathing within 6 weeks

2. Eat more foods containing protein, vitamins and iron, such as fish soup, grapes, cherries, vegetables, etc.

3. There are no special dietary taboos, but try to eat less irritating and gas-producing foods.

4. Those who have had a hysterectomy will no longer have menstruation.

5. 6-8 weeks after the operation, when the deep tissues in the pelvic cavity have recovered, you can have a normal sexual life. If you have undergone a total hysterectomy, you should abstain from sexual life for 3 months and avoid heavy physical labor. After 3 months, I returned to normal work and life.

6. Avoid lifting objects heavier than 3 kg, bending over to pick up objects, and climbing stairs within 6-8 weeks after surgery. You can use a belly band appropriately.

7. Avoid sitting for long periods of time, long-distance travel, yoga, rhythmic dance and other exercises that can easily increase abdominal pressure within 3 months to avoid pelvic bleeding.

8. After using the toilet, wipe from front to back to avoid infection

9. Observe the wound daily to see if it is red, swollen, hot, painful or has abnormal secretions. If you have any of the above symptoms, please return to the doctor as soon as possible.

10. Eat more fruits and vegetables and high-fiber foods, and drink 2000-3000cc of water every day to prevent constipation.

Risks of hysterectomy:

1. Bleeding. It is divided into intraoperative bleeding and late postoperative bleeding.

2. Injury to the bladder and ureter.

3. Infection. The vagina and cervix are not disinfected strictly before surgery, or vaginal secretions overflow into the abdominal cavity during surgery, causing infection.

4. Rectal injury. Opening the rectouterine pouch may easily injure the rectum during surgery.

5. Adhesion. Intestinal loops may adhere to the uterine incision and cause intestinal obstruction.

6. The surgical wound may become cancerous, such as various stump cancers.

The above are some of the things that patients need to pay attention to after a hysterectomy. In addition, if you do not pay attention to calcium supplementation after a hysterectomy, osteoporosis will easily occur. Therefore, our postoperative diet should specially supplement some calcium for patients. You can eat more animal bones, beans, milk, dried fish and other foods.
