Is a gynecological examination painful?

Gynecological diseases endanger women's physical and mental health. Therefore, female friends need to know how to conduct gynecological examinations? Gynecological examination is one of the common and effective means for women to prevent and treat diseases. Therefore, it is necessary for female friends to have a gynecological examination. Gynecological examination is an examination that married women should consider doing every year. Many gynecological diseases can be discovered through this examination. Of course, you need to understand some issues before doing a gynecological examination.

Gynecological examination consultation - consultation room:

Compared with other departments, gynecology requires a long-term, fixed private doctor. After all, it’s such a private matter, and I don’t want to tell the whole story to strangers every time.

You need to understand the doctor before choosing one. Some doctors only specialize in a certain area, such as female menopause or uterine tumors. You can ask the doctor himself or the clinic; only a few doctors like to brag. During subsequent treatments, if the doctor feels that your question is too professional, she will recommend other doctors to you.

The doctor will ask:

Most of your doctor's questions will revolve around your menstrual periods and pregnancy and delivery. You must clearly know the time of your menarche, menstrual cycle, last menstrual period, and menstrual blood volume.

Sometimes during the examination, the doctor will ask some irrelevant questions. She may think you are too nervous and hope that you will care about something else. At the same time, she also wants to understand your medical history and use it as a reference for diagnosis.

Women who truly love themselves all have a body diary. Including temperature records, menstrual conditions, sexual life and contraception, and even emotional changes. This way you can understand more about your body and it will be easier to detect any abnormalities.

Gynecological examination room

Examination room: After the medical consultation, you will go to the examination bed behind the partition, take off your clothes and undergo a gynecological examination. If you feel the urge to urinate at this time, don't be embarrassed, as a full bladder will directly affect the examination. Lie on the examination bed with your legs apart. If you feel nervous, in addition to taking deep breaths and adjusting yourself, don't forget to tell the doctor and she will help you distract yourself.

vulva

Purpose of examination: Check whether the skin of the vulva is smooth, whether the color is normal, and whether there are ulcers, dermatitis, growths, and hypopigmentation.

Normal vulva: pubic hair points downward in a triangular distribution, labia majora are pigmented, labia minora are slightly red, clitoris length is <2.5cm, and the mucosa around the urethral opening is light pink.

A more in-depth examination is then required, which requires the use of a speculum, which is usually disposable or sterilized and sealed.

The doctor will warm it in hot water, apply Vaseline, and then insert the closed duckbill into the vagina, which makes the examination more bearable. The duckbill opens and the inner walls of the vagina, which are usually stuck together, are stretched open, allowing the doctor to clearly see the vagina and cervix.

vaginal

Purpose of examination: To check whether the surface of the vaginal mucosa is smooth, whether the texture is normal, whether there are bleeding spots, and whether the properties and odor of vaginal discharge are normal.

Normal vagina: The vaginal wall mucosa is light pink in color, with wrinkles, no ulcers, growths, cysts, or congenital malformations. The secretions are egg white-like or white paste-like, without fishy odor and in small amounts, but increase during ovulation and pregnancy. If your vaginal discharge is to be examined, your doctor will take a sample at this time.

cervix

Purpose of examination: To observe whether there are any tumors, ulcers, erosions, or polyps on the cervix, whether the cervix is normal in size, whether the surface is smooth, whether the texture is too hard, and whether there is uterine prolapse.

Normal cervix: bulges around the periphery and a hole in the middle. The shape of the navel for non-pregnant women is round, while that for pregnant women is "I"-shaped, tough, flesh-red, and has a smooth surface. If you want to have a cervical cancer smear test, your doctor will take a specimen at this time.

The doctor takes out the speculum, puts on a pair of very thin rubber gloves, applies Vaseline, and slowly inserts one or two fingers into the vagina. The other hand is placed on the lower abdomen and presses down hard. This is an examination of the uterus and appendages. This will make you nervous again and even a little painful.

There is no way, just relax, stare at the ceiling, and think about "fairy from the sky". If you are overweight, you should relax even more. You will feel pain when your fingers touch the bottom of the uterus, but it will not last long, about 1 minute.

Uterus and appendages

Purpose of examination: To understand the location of the uterine fundus, whether it is active, and its texture. If the uterus is enlarged, too hard, or has an uneven surface, these are abnormal phenomena and further examination is required.

Normal uterus: inverted pear-shaped, 7 to 8 cm long, 4 to 5 cm wide, 2 to 3 cm thick, most of them are in anterior tilted and anteflexed position, with a medium hard texture and good mobility. The ovaries and fallopian tubes are collectively called "appendages". They are movable and feel slightly sore and swollen when touched. Normal fallopian tubes cannot be palpated.

Gynecological examinations are not as complicated or scary as people imagine. Gynecological examination is mainly divided into four steps:

First, the doctor will check the vulva for tumors, inflammation, genital warts, etc.

The second is a vaginal examination to check for any vaginal deformities, vaginal inflammation, or abnormal leucorrhea.

Cervical examination should check for cervical inflammation, cervical erosion, etc. In order to diagnose a tumor, a cervical smear test, also known as a cancer prevention smear test, is also required.

Finally, the uterus will be palpated to check its shape, size, texture, etc.

In order to reduce women's fear of gynecological examinations, what needs to be done during the first gynecological examination is to wear loose and easy-to-take-off clothes on the day of the examination. Sexual intercourse and vaginal medication should be stopped the day before the examination. Try to relax and cooperate actively during the examination. The more nervous you are, the more uncomfortable you will feel. Generally, gynecological examinations are not painful, so don't worry.
