What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Adolescence?

Young men and women in adolescence also have many diseases, such as acne on the face, irregular menstruation, obesity, etc., which may be caused by diseases. Especially for women, irregular menstruation often occurs during adolescence. Some people even have menstruation once every three months. These are very abnormal situations. These are symptoms of polyovarian syndrome. So what causes polyovarian syndrome in adolescence?

Adolescent acne, obesity and menstrual disorders may be the same disease, which has been on the rise in recent years and accounts for about 30% of gynecological outpatients. Many girls who have irregular menstruation, unrecoverable acne on their faces, thick lip hair, and are overweight or obese suffer from a disease called polycystic ovary syndrome. Therefore, it is recommended to do B-ultrasound examination of both ovaries and blood test for endocrine examination.

In order to meet the needs of physical development, adolescent girls' hormone levels will undergo some changes, such as increasing androgen to meet the needs of body hair growth. However, when the endocrine system is out of balance, excessive androgen levels can not only cause acne, excessive lip, armpit and pubic hair, but also menstrual disorders. Ultrasound examination of the patient will reveal that both ovaries are enlarged, with more than 10 small follicles echoing in each ovary, and the androgen level is significantly higher than normal. Because of this polycystic change in the ovaries, it is medically called polycystic ovary syndrome.

The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome is still unknown, but it may be related to excessive intake of fried, puffed, and high-fat foods and insufficient exercise during childhood. This is why 50% of women with the disease are obese. If the disease is not treated in time, the patient may suffer from irregular menstruation after marriage and the failure to discharge mature follicles, which can often lead to infertility. Moreover, these patients are more likely to develop diabetes, coronary heart disease, and endometrial cancer in the future than healthy people.

The article introduces some possible causes of polyovarian syndrome in adolescence. After understanding the causes of the disease, we can better prevent and treat it. During puberty, due to changes in hormones in the body, it is very easy to develop endocrine disorders. Proper conditioning is needed during this period to avoid the occurrence of certain diseases.
