Is urinary tract infection in women easy to treat?

Is urinary tract infection in women easy to treat?

Generally speaking, women are more likely to suffer from urinary tract infections than men. In fact, the bacteria associated with urinary tract infections enter the bladder from the urethra and then cause infection. However, the female urethra is wider than the male urethra, so women are more likely to develop urinary tract infections. After the wedding, they gradually start having sexual intercourse. If they do not pay attention to the hygiene of sexual intercourse, the bacteria will be sent into the bladder. So, is female urinary tract infection easy to treat?

If there are very typical symptoms of pyelonephritis and a large number of white blood cells are found in a routine urine test, a diagnosis of urinary tract infection can be made. Otherwise, a clean midstream urine bacterial culture count should be done. Only when bacteria are clearly present can it be determined whether it is a urinary tract infection and treatment can be given by taking antibacterial drugs. Because some patients with non-infectious urethral syndrome may also have obvious symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating, but they are not caused by bacterial infection, treatment with antibiotics is not only unhelpful, but harmful. In addition, urine tests can also rule out transmitted diseases caused by infections such as gonococci, chlamydia, and mycoplasma, because the treatments for sexually transmitted diseases and common urinary tract infections are different.

If urinary tract infection is not treated promptly, it may damage the kidneys, cause uremia, and eventually lead to death. Therefore, if you suspect you have a urinary tract infection, you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible. After a clear diagnosis, take antibacterial drugs for treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Currently commonly used drugs include ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, co-trimoxazole, etc. Ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin are the most commonly used, twice a day, 200 mg each time, but pregnant women and adolescents under 18 years of age cannot take it. The advantage of co-trimoxazole is its reliable efficacy and few side effects, but it should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency. People with cystitis can usually recover from it with just one, larger dose of medication. The combination of Chinese and Western medicine is more conducive to the elimination of bacteria and shortens the treatment time. For patients with poor physical constitution and severe adverse reactions after taking western medicine, combining Chinese and Western medicine is the best choice.

Female friends should try their best to follow the doctor's treatment arrangements when treating urinary tract infections. However, since urinary tract infections develop slowly, the treatment time will be relatively long, so more follow-up examinations are required after treatment. Urine bacteria should be cultured every month after treatment, and treatment should still be continued if bacteria are still found.
