What to do if you can't pump out milk

It is very worrying for breastfeeding women to be unable to suck out milk. The main reason for this is the obstruction of the mammary glands. We can use hot compresses or gentle massage and patting to dredge the blood circulation around the mammary glands in order to achieve a better and faster effect of milk discharge. Please note that during the hot compress or massage process, you must pay attention to the strength of your fingers. Excessive force can easily cause mammary gland obstruction.

If milk cannot be sucked out, you can apply hot compress before breastfeeding. Apply a hot and wet towel to the breasts for 3 to 5 minutes, then gently massage and pat the breasts several times. Hold the breasts in a C shape, press against the chest wall first, and then press the areola with the thumb or index finger, squeeze out some milk to soften the areola, so that the baby can hold the areola correctly and suck fully and effectively. If conditions permit, you can take a hot bath or shower to promote systemic and local blood circulation and allow milk to be discharged smoothly.

You can also use 100 grams of fermented raw dough and apply it on the swollen breasts. Take Chinese medicine deer antler powder at the same time. The mother can use her hands to gently massage from the breasts towards the areola, 3 to 4 times a day. This method can promote local blood circulation, and promote the patency of mammary ducts, so it is beneficial to milk discharge. If your nipples are small or not deeply inverted, you can pull and massage your nipples every day and let your baby suck more. If necessary, use a breast pump to suck out the milk and then give it to your baby.

If you are unable to pump out milk due to mastitis, it is recommended that you stop breastfeeding for a short period of time. You can resume breastfeeding after the disease is completely cured through medication. Women who are breastfeeding should avoid eating spicy and irritating foods, drink more water, and eat more vegetables and fruits. This is very beneficial for the nutritional content and discharge of breast milk. And everyone must be careful not to let their children develop the habit of sleeping with the nipple in their mouth.
