What are the main types of cervical erosion?

A healthy cervix is rare in life. Many women with no sexual history will suffer from cervical erosion. Those with a sexual history or childbirth history have a higher incidence of the disease. It can be said that cervical erosion is the gynecological disease with the most patients. There are many types of this disease, and the symptoms and characteristics of the disease vary depending on the type. So what are the main types of cervical erosion? Let’s learn about the classification of cervical erosion.

The classification of cervical erosion varies according to different situations.

Generally, there are the following classification methods:

1. Clinically, cervical erosion can be divided into three degrees: mild (I), moderate (II), and severe (III) according to the size of the eroded surface.

Mild (I) grade cervical erosion---the erosion area accounts for less than 1/3 of the total area of the cervix. It is mild cervical erosion. Generally, there are no symptoms and the condition is relatively mild. Some patients may experience thick and increased leucorrhea. The treatment is relatively simple and the effect is relatively good. It does not cause great harm to the body.

Moderate (II) cervical erosion: When the erosion area accounts for 1/3 to 2/3 of the total area of the cervix, it is called moderate cervical erosion. The main manifestations are increased leucorrhea, sticky odor, and yellow color. When inflammation irritates the vulva, it will cause itching; when the eroded surface is obviously congested and bright red in color, there may be contact bleeding during sexual intercourse or irregular vaginal bleeding. Moderate cervical erosion is between mild and severe cervical erosion. If treated promptly, the effect is relatively high and it is easy to cure.

Severe (III) third degree cervical erosion - when the erosion area exceeds 2/3 of the total area of the cervix, it is called severe cervical erosion. Patients will experience increased and sticky leucorrhea with blood streaks, accompanied by irregular vaginal bleeding. For example, in severe cervical erosion, the erosion area is wide and the infiltration is deep. The inflammation can reach the pelvic cavity through the lymphatic circulation, causing pelvic inflammatory disease. Patients may experience symptoms of lumbar pain and lower abdominal distension. Some patients may also have symptoms such as frequent urination and urgency.

2. According to the manifestations of cervical erosion, cervical erosion can be divided into three types:

Simple erosion: more common in the early stage of inflammation, the erosion surface is covered by a single layer of columnar epithelium, and the epidermis is relatively flat and smooth;

Granular erosion: The inflammation continues to exist, causing excessive proliferation of the cervical epithelium, and the erosion surface is uneven and granular in appearance, which is granular erosion;

Papillary erosion: If the glandular epithelium and stroma proliferate significantly, the unevenness becomes more obvious, and it is papillary-shaped, which is papillary erosion.

3. According to the cause, cervical erosion can be divided into two types: specific and non-specific.

Specific: refers to infection caused by pathogens. Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis are the most common pathogens of cervical infection.

Nonspecific: Most are caused by an imbalance in estrogen secretion. For example, there are many unmarried and childless people.

The classification of cervical erosion is very important. When patients are diagnosed with cervical erosion, they also need to know the type of disease and the severity of the disease. Only then can the doctor develop an effective treatment plan based on these test results. The treatment for erosions of different severities is different, and the harm caused to the patient will also be different. Patients should receive symptomatic treatment and take good care of their cervix. Hygienic care and dietary adjustments are also of great help in treatment.
