Why do knee joints hurt during menstruation?

I feel severe pain in my waist every time my period comes, not to mention dysmenorrhea. So every time my period comes, I feel very tired and uncomfortable. Especially dysmenorrhea is almost life-threatening. The pain makes me want to faint. Recently, I don’t know why even my knee joints hurt. I thought it was rheumatism or something. I suddenly felt that being a woman is really not easy. I have to go through such uncomfortable days every month.

Many women experience joint pain during menstruation, most commonly in the knee joints, which is called menstrual joint pain. Menstrual joint pain usually begins about a week before menstruation, worsens when walking and eases after rest; it is obvious when extending the knee (such as going down stairs) and disappears when bending the knee (such as going up stairs). There is slight local swelling in the knee joint, slightly higher skin temperature, and deep tenderness. After the menstrual period ends, knee pain may gradually ease on its own or even disappear completely. Most patients often have symptoms such as abdominal distension, diarrhea, breast tenderness, and limb edema.

This phenomenon is closely related to the disorder of water and salt metabolism during menstruation. Before menstruation, there are obvious changes in the hormone levels in women's bodies. At this time, the uncoordinated secretion of estrogen and aldosterone causes water and salt retention. Excess water and salt accumulate in the body's tissues, causing varying degrees of edema, which is most obvious in the face, hands, feet and other parts of the body. Because the human knee joint is filled with fatty tissue, water and salt retention causes the fat pad to swell, which in turn compresses the nerve endings around the joint and causes pain.

It is not easy to be a woman, so you have to pay close attention to your body, especially during and after your menstrual period. You should have a regular life, get enough rest and sleep, and pay close attention to your diet, as your body needs to be maintained. You should also relax your mind at ordinary times and not be overly nervous or excited. You should also do some exercise regularly.
