What causes women's nipples to become larger?

Generally, the nipples of unmarried girls are relatively small and very light in color, with a hint of pink like the areola. However, some women's nipples have always been relatively large, while some women's nipples gradually become larger and darker in color. So, how big should a normal nipple be? How big is a nipple considered large? Why do nipples become large? Do they need treatment?

Experts point out that the normal nipple size is about 1.5-2 cm above the breast peak plane and has a diameter of 0.8-1 cm. If it exceeds this range, the nipple will appear bloated and too large. Clinically, there are many reasons for enlarged nipples in women, generally including breast swelling during orgasm in sexual life, endocrine breast swelling, or breast swelling during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Moreover, the reason for large nipples is due to genetic factors or because the nipples are sensitive to stimulation. Enlarged nipples can be primary, which is more common in unmarried women, or can be caused by sucking traction in children.

At the same time, in life, large nipples not only bother women, but men also suffer from large nipples. However, the reasons for large nipples in men are mostly due to disease factors. Male breast hyperplasia is called gynecomastia. It often occurs around puberty and in old age. The pathological manifestation is duct hyperplasia without alveolar hyperplasia. It can generally be divided into two categories: primary and secondary:

1. Primary enlarged nipples are usually common in adolescent boys and elderly men. They are mainly caused by a transient increase in endogenous estrogen or a decrease in androgen, and can often resolve on their own.

2. Secondary enlarged nipples are common in patients with liver disease, testicular disease, adrenal disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, and tumors of the urogenital system or nervous system, prostate disease, long-term use of estrogen, or other diseases long-term use of some medications, such as: reserpine, remifentanil, digitalis, chlorpromazine, etc. can also cause breast development, which usually disappears after stopping the medication.

If your nipples become larger, and breastfeeding and sexual intercourse are ruled out as reasons for nipple stimulation, the enlarged nipples may be caused by some disease in the body. You should go to the hospital for examination in time. Once the disease is found, timely symptomatic treatment of the disease can make the nipples smaller.
