What should I do if I get pregnant with cervical erosion of degree 3?

Does cervical erosion affect pregnancy? Cervical erosion is actually a normal physiological phenomenon and timely treatment will not affect conception. However, if accompanied by inflammation and bacterial infection, it may stimulate increased vaginal secretions, which is not conducive to sperm activity and may also affect conception. So, what should you do if you get pregnant with severe cervical erosion? Will severe cervical erosion affect the health of the fetus?

What is cervical erosion

The specific manifestation of cervical erosion is a fine granular red area in the cervical vaginal part at the external os of the cervix. The boundary of the eroded surface is clearly demarcated from the normal cervical epithelium. It has now been renamed "cervical columnar epithelium ectopia".

"Cervical erosion" is not true ulceration with epithelial shedding and ulceration, nor is it equivalent to the pathological diagnostic criteria for chronic cervicitis. Cervical erosion-like changes may be physiological columnar epithelial ectopia, that is, the squamous epithelium of the cervical vagina is replaced by the columnar epithelium of the endocervical canal; it may also be pathological, such as congestion and edema of the cervical columnar epithelium during inflammation, or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and early manifestations of cervical cancer.

Does cervical erosion affect pregnancy?

Cervical erosion-like changes are a normal physiological phenomenon. As long as there are no uncomfortable symptoms such as contact bleeding, abnormal leucorrhea, lower abdominal distension, etc., and the cervical cytology examination is normal, it will not affect fertility. Even if patients with cervical erosion-like changes have mild inflammation, it will not affect conception.

If cervical erosion-like changes are accompanied by inflammation, such as local purulent leucorrhea in the cervix, and infection with pathogens such as chlamydia or gonococci, the cervical mucus will become thick and contain a large number of white blood cells, which will be detrimental to sperm activity and penetration and will affect conception. Women should wait until the inflammation is cured before preparing for pregnancy.

What should I do if I get pregnant with severe cervical erosion?

Experts remind that patients with severe cervical erosion should first undergo cervical cytology examination or cervical biopsy to clearly rule out the possibility of other cervical lesions. If it is just an inflammatory infection, conservative treatment with medication or cervical microwave treatment can be used.

If it is a precancerous lesion such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, laser or cone biopsy should be performed for treatment. It is hard to say whether these have an impact on fertility. Some patients have simple constitutions and no chronic inflammation, so there is generally no impact on fertility. However, experts recommend that severe cervical erosion be cured before becoming pregnant.

Can I have a normal birth after having cervical erosion surgery?

If a woman's cervical erosion is severe, in addition to the symptoms of cervical erosion, there are also cervical hypertrophy, cervical polyps, deep and wide erosion and involvement of the cervical canal, then surgery is required. The surgical treatment for cervical erosion is generally cervical conization. This operation causes heavy bleeding and severe damage, and may leave scars on the female cervix after the operation.

The scars left after cervical erosion surgery may affect the opening of the cervix during natural childbirth. After surgical treatment of cervical erosion, the condition of the cervical tissue must be observed. If it is relatively hard, it will affect normal delivery. If it is relatively soft, it is still okay and normal delivery can be achieved. Pregnant women are advised to undergo a physical examination before delivery to observe the condition of the cervical tissue. If the cervix recovers well, a normal delivery can be achieved.

Since cervical erosion surgery can cause great damage to the cervix, patients are generally recommended to use medication or physical therapy, which will not affect normal delivery.

Above we know what to do if you are pregnant with severe cervical erosion. It is understood that pregnancy can cause cervical erosion to worsen, and cervical erosion cannot be treated with medication or local treatments in the early stages of pregnancy. Local treatments must wait until the middle stages of pregnancy. The editor recommends that patients need to go to the hospital for a blood HCG test as soon as possible to determine whether they are pregnant.
