Will hcg double if there is an ectopic pregnancy?

Many female friends know about ectopic pregnancy, which is also a very common condition. Many friends who have just found out that they are pregnant are also very worried that they may have an ectopic pregnancy, and they often go to check HCG. However, many people do not know much about HCG, and they have only heard a lot about ectopic pregnancy, but not many people know about it. So, will the HCG level double in case of ectopic pregnancy? Let’s understand this issue together.

Under normal circumstances, the hCG value of ectopic pregnancy will double. Because ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy, the change range of HCG value is relatively small. Ectopic pregnancy poses a great threat to women's life safety. Therefore, it is recommended that women diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy should not easily choose abortion but should choose a suitable and safe treatment method according to their physical condition. Ectopic pregnancy seriously threatens the life safety of women of childbearing age. It is very important to detect ectopic pregnancy as early as possible due to acute gynecological diseases. Many female friends know that blood HCG test is used for auxiliary diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. Further reading: Because the fallopian tube muscle layer is thin and the blood supply is poor, the HCG secretion is low. The hCG value of ectopic pregnancy increases less every day and rises by 50% in 48 hours (some people have normal HCG rise at the beginning). It is difficult to confirm with HCG, and blood progesterone is used for auxiliary diagnosis. The blood progesterone level of patients with ectopic pregnancy is low, and the recognized critical value for early diagnosis is 63nmol/L.

(1) Doubling time: In normal early intrauterine pregnancy, the doubling time of blood hCG is 1.4 to 2.2 days, while in abnormal pregnancy (ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage), the doubling time of blood hCG is 3 to 8 days

(2) Comparison of diagnostic methods: The positive predictive value of using a normal increase in hcg to exclude ectopic pregnancy is about 95%. Comparison of ultrasound results and hcg concentrations can also estimate ectopic pregnancy. When hcg reaches 1000U/L, vaginal ultrasound should identify an intrauterine gestational sac. When hcg reaches 6500U/L, abdominal ultrasound can identify an intrauterine gestational sac. In this case, ectopic pregnancy should be suspected.

(3) Continuous measurement: A single hCG measurement can confirm pregnancy. Patients suspected of ectopic pregnancy should undergo continuous hCG measurement every 48 hours. If the hCG level rises by less than 50%, ectopic pregnancy should be considered.

(4) The level of blood hCG: 85% of patients with ectopic pregnancy have blood hCG levels lower than 2.5% of patients with intrauterine pregnancy of the same gestational age; patients with normal intrauterine pregnancy have blood hCG levels lower than normal; 95% of patients with spontaneous abortion at any stage also have low blood hCG levels. The three types of blood hCG levels overlap. Experts say that in ectopic pregnancy, hCG levels will double. Experts point out that when women of childbearing age are pregnant and it can be confirmed whether it is an ectopic pregnancy, B-ultrasound examination should be performed to confirm whether it is an ectopic pregnancy to avoid accidents. If an ectopic pregnancy is confirmed, it must be treated in time to avoid missing the best time for treatment.

Many people are afraid of ectopic pregnancy, because it not only causes great harm to women's bodies, but also has a certain impact on the next pregnancy. Now through the above introduction, everyone will have a certain understanding of whether the HCG level will double in case of ectopic pregnancy. So when you are pregnant and find out whether you have an ectopic pregnancy, you should go to the hospital for an examination in time and listen to the doctor's arrangements.
