Is pelvic measurement at 38 weeks an internal examination?

Women need to consider their own delivery methods in the later stages of pregnancy. Generally, it is recommended to choose natural delivery. If the baby is too large or the pregnant woman's own condition does not allow it, she can choose a caesarean section. If you choose to give birth naturally, you need to do pelvic measurement before delivery.

Pelvic measurement and internal examination are two different definitions, so remember not to confuse them. Pelvic measurement is divided into medial and lateral. The lateral side is to measure the four diameters of the pelvis from the outside. The standard value of the iliac crest diameter is 23-26cm, the standard value of the iliac spine diameter is 25-28cm, the standard value of the sacral pubic diameter is 18-20cm, and the most important is to measure the ischial tuberosity diameter. Its normal value is 8.5-9.5 cm. If it is less than 8cm, the posterior sagittal diameter measurement should also be carried out. If the measured value cannot meet the standard, natural delivery cannot be chosen.

Internal examination is divided into two methods: vaginal examination and anal examination. Whether the fetus can be successfully delivered is closely related to the size of the pelvis. When a pregnant woman chooses to give birth naturally, the only way for the baby to pass through is the pelvis. The speed of the delivery process and the birth rate of the baby are related to the size of the pelvis. A normal pelvis and a large fetus, or a normal fetus and a small pelvis, can easily lead to dystocia. Therefore, early pelvic measurement can predict whether pregnant women can choose natural childbirth and take countermeasures in advance.

Pregnant women need to go to the hospital for professional and accurate measurements. The measurements done at home are inaccurate. If the pregnant woman is not suitable for a normal birth after accurate measurement at the hospital, remember not to expect it, and the best way is to follow the doctor's professional advice.
