What to do if a pregnant woman has a hanging belly

In the later stages of pregnancy, pregnant women have fully adapted to the physiological and psychological changes and are ready to welcome the arrival of the baby. Expectant mothers should not only do a good job of prenatal examinations but also pay attention to nutritional issues in the later stages of pregnancy. The most critical issue at this time is whether to choose natural birth or caesarean section when the baby is born. Many elderly people recommend natural childbirth, but there are many problems that prevent expectant mothers from having a natural birth and must choose a caesarean section. Let’s talk about the situation of hanging abdomen in pregnant women who must have a caesarean section.

A hanging belly is a type of abdominal shape during pregnancy, where the abdomen bulges forward, making it difficult for the fetus to enter the pelvis. Even if the fetus enters the pelvis, it is difficult to give birth naturally. This is mainly because the abdomen is over-swollen, which breaks the abdominal muscles and causes the pregnant woman to have insufficient labor force. A hanging abdomen is usually accompanied by: excessive amniotic fluid and a large fetus (over 7.5 catties). Doctors generally recommend considering a cesarean section, but they do not rule out the possibility of a natural birth, and the decision can be made through a trial birth. The belly is hanging, the waist is not swollen, and the pregnancy cannot be seen from the back.

Towards the end of pregnancy, your doctor will measure your pelvis. Pelvic measurement is divided into two parts: external measurement and internal measurement, which mainly measures the size of the entrance and exit of the expectant mother's pelvis. If the entrance is too small, the baby's head cannot enter the pelvis normally. The pregnant woman's belly is often excessively bent forward, commonly known as "hanging belly". In this case, it is impossible for the mother to give birth vaginally, and generally a cesarean section is performed to end the delivery. If the outlet is too small, although the baby can go through a series of delivery processes such as engagement, internal rotation, and flexion, the fetal head cannot be delivered smoothly after reaching the bottom of the pelvis, the contractions will intensify, the mother will suffer unbearable pain, and the fetal head will be compressed and deformed. Not only will normal delivery not be possible, but a long time will also lead to intracranial hemorrhage in the baby, fetal distress and other dangers. The expectant mother will have threatened uterine rupture due to frequent contractions, seriously affecting the safety of mother and child. Generally, hospitals will recommend a caesarean section.

Expectant mothers must relax, not have too much psychological pressure, actively undergo check-ups, cooperate with doctors in prenatal preparations, so that babies born by caesarean section can be just as healthy. Do not eat spicy or irritating foods, and supplement trace elements according to the results of prenatal examinations. Excessive supplementation can make the fetus sick. Exercise appropriately, and be accompanied by someone instead of going out alone to avoid accidents.
