What are the methods of hysterectomy?

Uterine septum is a typical lesion of the female uterus. It is mainly an abnormality caused by the obstruction of embryonic development during the development of the uterus. When uterine septum occurs, uterine septum resection is usually required for treatment, and there are many types of surgery, so it is necessary to understand them in detail. So, what are the methods of hysteroseptum resection? Let’s take a closer look at them below.

1. Monopolar electrode resection

(1) Complete uterine septum surgery: First, use the Hegar dilator to dilate the cervix and uterine cavity on both sides. Then, place the hysteroscopy alternately in the uterine cavity on one side and use a straight cutting ring or hook electrode to perform equal resection of the septum wall to avoid excessive resection on one side that may cause deformation of the uterine cavity.

(2) Surgery for incomplete uterine septum: Under direct vision of the hysteroscope, a straight cutting ring is slowly advanced along the longitudinal axis of the uterine septum from the cervix toward the fundus until B-ultrasound indicates that the fundus has been reached. This method is simple to operate, time-saving, the average operation time is 10 minutes, and it can stop bleeding completely. It is currently widely used in clinical practice.

2. Laser surgery to treat uterine septum uses Nd:YAG laser to burn the uterine septum through optical fiber. Detailed method: Move the laser fiber quickly from bottom to top or from left to right to vaporize and cut the mediastinum until it is near the bottom of the uterus and completely removed. Foreign scholars believe that the hysteroscopic Nd:YAG laser removal of uterine septum is simple, bloodless, safe, and has ideal results, and is superior to scissors and high-frequency electric knife. However, it should be noted that the laser light-guiding fiber optic cable disperses its energy while burning the mediastinum, which may burn the endometrium on all sides and prolong the process of uterine epithelialization.

The above is an introduction to the methods of hysteroseptum resection. I hope it will be helpful to everyone’s understanding. Because the conditions of uterine septum vary greatly, treatment requires appropriate methods based on the actual condition of the woman, and postoperative care measures must be taken and appropriate physical exercise must be performed to enable better recovery.
