What should I pay attention to during postoperative care for a hysterectomy? Post-hysterectomy care requires attention to the following aspects:

1. Drainage tube care

The postoperative catheter is generally retained for 3 to 5 days, and the condition requires about 10 days. During the period of retaining the catheter, the patient should be encouraged to drink more water to keep it unobstructed. The urethral opening should be cleaned with 0.1% Sanisol cotton pad every day, and the urethral opening and catheter should be coated with anti-inflammatory ointment to reduce the chance of urinary tract infection. Before removing the catheter, the catheter needs to be clamped and opened regularly (once every 4 hours for 2 days) to restore bladder function. After 6 hours of removing the catheter for radical hysterectomy, the residual urine should be measured after urination. If the residual urine exceeds 100ml, it should be maintained for 3 days and then the residual urine should be measured again. Repeatedly place the catheter until the residual urine is less than 100ml.

2. Body Position

The patient should lie flat on the day of surgery and can lie in a supine or semi-sitting position at will 24 hours later. This has the advantage of relaxing the abdominal wall muscles, relieving wound pain, and facilitating sputum discharge and drainage of pelvic and vaginal exudates. The patient should be assisted to turn over and pat his back regularly to effectively cough up sputum. For patients who have been bedridden for a long time, the nurse should closely observe the changes in the condition of the patient during active and passive activities of the lower limbs to prevent those with physical weakness or dizziness from falling.

3. Diet

According to the degree of recovery of the patient's gastrointestinal function, those whose small intestinal function is recovered within 24 hours can eat a small amount of liquid food, and semi-liquid food within 48 hours. The diet should be light and easily digestible, and the amount should be increased gradually. The quality should be high in protein, low in fat, and high in vitamins to promote body repair and enhance physical strength. Those who do not eat enough should be supplemented with nutrition and electrolytes intravenously.

4. Six weeks after total hysterectomy, the patient should go to the hospital for a follow-up examination to understand the wound healing situation. Sexual intercourse is generally prohibited for 3 months after surgery to facilitate wound recovery. You can resume your sex life afterwards.

5. Studies have shown that ovarian function will be affected to a certain extent 3 to 5 years after hysterectomy, and patients will experience some menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, sweating, irritability, and vaginal dryness, which will affect sexual life. At this time, you should go to the hospital for examination. If necessary, use hormone replacement or apply medications such as cod liver oil ointment to promote a harmonious sexual life.

6. Appropriate physical exercise and doing exercises for couples can also help physical recovery and harmonious sexual life after surgery.
