What is pyosalpinx?

The fallopian tube is an important organ of a woman. If the fallopian tube becomes diseased, it may endanger the life of women. Therefore, the fallopian tube occupies an important position in the female body. Now the disease of pyosalpinx has emerged. So today I will introduce to you what pyosalpinx is.

The main symptoms of fallopian tube inflammation are lower abdominal pain, abdominal distension, fever, increased vaginal discharge or irregular vaginal bleeding. In severe cases, it can lead to obstruction of the fallopian tube lumen and accumulation of pus in the lumen to form fallopian tube pyosalpinx. Due to the necrosis and shedding of the mucosal fold epithelium and fibrinous exudation in the acute phase, the papillary folds often adhere to each other in the acute phase, bridging to form numerous glandular ducts and cysts.

The typical case is called follicular salpingitis. Due to the inflammatory infiltration in the mucosal lamina propria, the mucosal folds are often wide and low, and the inflammatory exudation on the serosal surface leads to adhesions between the various segments of the fallopian tube, and between the fallopian tube and the ovary or pelvic wall, thereby twisting and deforming the fallopian tube. The umbrella end can be closed to form a blind end, and the lumen can be expanded.

The formation of fallopian tube cysts is due to the infection of the fallopian tube by pathogens. Due to the infiltration of white blood cells in the body, the endometrium is swollen, the interstitial edema and exudation occur, leading to the shedding of the fallopian tube mucosal epithelium. If the acute inflammation of the fallopian tube is not treated in time in the hospital, it is easy to form fallopian tube abscesses. After the inflammation of the fallopian tube subsides, the pus is gradually absorbed and the fluid in the cavity changes from purulent to serous, which becomes a fallopian tube cyst.

Simple tubal pyosalpingitis may turn into tubal cyst or scar salpingitis after the inflammation subsides. The former is a complication of chronic salpingitis, characterized by occlusion of the fimbria and cystic dilatation of the fallopian tube. The wall of the tube becomes very thin and translucent, and the inside of the cyst is filled with clear and transparent serous fluid. Because the lumens of the dilated and non-dilated parts of the fallopian tube are interconnected, patients often have vaginal discharge.

Symptoms

Generally speaking, the symptoms of acute and chronic fallopian tube inflammation are slightly different. Here are some details:

Symptom 1: Acute onset of lower abdominal pain and heaviness; frequent and painful urination; bloody vaginal discharge; may be accompanied by chills and fever, and may also include abdominal distension, constipation or diarrhea. If the disease occurs during menstruation or after miscarriage, the amount of bleeding will increase and the menstrual period will be prolonged. Further questioning may include a history of contact with gynecological diseases or sexually transmitted diseases.

Symptom 2: Chronic fallopian tube inflammation may not cause any obvious discomfort and the patient may be diagnosed with primary or secondary infertility. Some patients experience dull pain in the lower abdomen and distending pain in the lumbosacral area, which worsens during menstruation, after sexual intercourse or when tired; they also experience increased vaginal discharge, heavier menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, and dysmenorrhea. There may be a history of pelvic inflammatory disease and cervicitis.

The above content is the cause of fallopian tube pyosalpingosis introduced by professionals, so we must pay attention to this disease, which is related to a woman’s health issue. We should pay more attention to our physical condition in our daily life. If we are sick, we should seek timely treatment, exercise more and improve our resistance. Finally, I wish all patients a speedy recovery.
