Nursing methods for female lower limb edema

Many office women find their feet tight and swollen in the afternoon, and when they press them with their fingers, there are dents. This is a common problem among office workers, especially women. For the problem of lower limb edema in women, timely treatment and careful care should be taken. Never fool around or ignore it.

1. Physiological edema requires improvement of lifestyle habits

If both feet are swollen but only for a short time, sometimes disappearing after a nap and starting to swell again after noon, this is physiological edema and has nothing to do with any disease. It is mostly caused by eating disorders, poor circulation caused by sitting or standing for long periods of time, or by the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, or taking birth control pills or ovulation injections. In addition, excessive fatigue and reversed day and night work can also hinder the flow of water in the body and cause edema. Physiological edema can be relieved by improving your lifestyle and eating habits.

2. Pathological edema is related to the heart, liver, kidneys and thyroid gland

Pathological edema refers to edema that persists and does not improve, sometimes it is unilateral edema, and is accompanied by other symptoms, such as shortness of breath when walking or climbing stairs, high blood pressure, proteinuria, etc. It is best to go to the hospital for a check-up to see if there are any problems with the heart, liver, kidneys, or thyroid.

3. Nursing methods for female lower limb edema

1. Use external pressure to reduce edema. Lower body swelling caused by standing or sitting for long periods of time, maintaining the same posture, and poor venous return due to gravity can be improved through some small methods. For example, wearing elastic stockings can use external pressure to reduce edema. The correct way to wear it is to put it on while lying down, and take it off while lying down. This can avoid blood accumulation in the feet and prevent swelling of the lower body. Then also remember to raise your calves before going to bed and avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time.

2. Pay attention to dietary adjustments during the menstrual cycle. Before a woman's menstrual period, edema occurs due to pelvic congestion and the enlarged uterus compressing the lower limbs, affecting blood circulation. Therefore, diet during the menstrual cycle is very important. Try to reduce salt intake; eat some diuretic foods to help the body drain water, such as plantain seeds, mung beans, red beans, winter melon soup, etc. Boil Poria cocos and lotus leaves in a 1:1 ratio into water, add some rock sugar to drink, which will help eliminate excess water during the menstrual period.

3. Nourishing the kidney and activating blood circulation can improve postpartum edema in women. The postpartum period for women is similar to their menstrual cycle. On the one hand, the uterus becomes larger, affecting blood circulation and causing edema. On the other hand, due to the influence of progesterone, the body's water metabolism becomes worse and the body becomes swollen. Therefore, to improve postpartum edema in women, you can use dietary therapy to nourish the kidneys and promote blood circulation to remove water from the body. For example, barley and red bean soup can strengthen the stomach and intestines, replenish blood, and also achieve the effect of promoting lactation. Brown sugar ginger soup, made by boiling ginger with the skin on, has the effect of activating blood circulation and can also prevent colds.
