Why is there continuous vaginal discharge?

Vaginal discharge refers to the fluid discharged from the vagina. First of all, vaginal discharge should be distinguished from normal vaginal secretions. Under normal circumstances, the epithelial cells of the vaginal mucosa, the glandular ducts of the cervix, the uterine wall glandular ducts in the uterine cavity, and the epithelial cell glandular ducts of the fallopian tubes all have certain metabolic functions. Their secretions and the fallen epithelial cells together constitute all the normal secretions in the vagina, which is commonly known as "vaginal secretions."

Normal leucorrhea should be milky white, thin, and odorless. The main components of the secretion are metabolized by the mucosal epithelial cells in the vagina, and a small amount is metabolized by the uterine wall. It usually undergoes regular changes under the influence of uterine and ovarian growth hormone, with more and thinner secretions during ovulation. After ovulation, vaginal discharge becomes cloudy, thick, and less in quantity. After middle age and old age, the body's estrogen levels decrease, the male reproductive gland ducts decrease, and the amount of leucorrhea decreases.

Different from normal leucorrhea, there is abnormal vaginal discharge. The causes of abnormal vaginal discharge are roughly the following:

Blood pressure causes inflammation in the vagina. For example, candidal vaginitis causes the discharge of thin yellowish foamy vaginal discharge; fungal vaginitis causes the discharge of tofu-like or cheese-like white vaginal discharge; postmenopausal elderly people discharge thin yellowish vaginal discharge that occasionally contains blood, etc.

Blood, glandular duct hyperplasia or inflammation, and tumors in the uterine cavity. The clinical symptoms of ductal hyperplasia and intrauterine abdominal cancer are vaginal bleeding, but female secretions will also increase due to the occurrence of symptoms. Inflammation of the uterine wall (such as inflammatory sensation caused by IUD insertion, abortion, etc.) and inflammation caused by infection can lead to an increase in secretions and changes in their properties, resulting in watery or slurry discharge.

Supplements caused by cervical tumors and inflammation. Subacute cervicitis can cause leucorrhea with curd residue, while inflammation of the cervix causes thick or curd-like leucorrhea. The secretions discharged after suffering from cervical cancer are like thick liquid or water-like samples, and can be odorless or have a foul smell. Changes in secretions are related to the early and late stages of the tumor: the common early symptoms of cervical cancer and uterine cancer are watery secretions in the vagina, which are serous secretions caused by the rupture of cancerous tissue. In the late stage, necrosis and infection of cancerous tissue will cause discharge of foul-smelling pink pus discharge.

The condition of weight-bearing bilateral fallopian tubes will cause abnormal fluid flow in the vagina. Most patients with cervical adenocarcinoma often experience abnormal fluid discharge from the vagina. The clinical prevalence of primary cervical adenocarcinoma is low, and its prominent symptom is paroxysmal vaginal discharge. Patients with bilateral fallopian tube disease often experience abnormal water flow, mainly because bilateral fallopian tube cancer can enhance the metabolic function of the bilateral fallopian tubes, resulting in bilateral fallopian tube exudate. The discharged fluid is mostly light yellow or mixed with blood, generally colorless and odorless, and some can have a foul smell. Therefore, if there is intermittent vaginal discharge of clear, yellowish red color after menopause, it is necessary to consider whether it is cervical cancer. If it is just simple salpingitis, there will be no significant change in secretions.
